My nieces aged 16 yrs and 14 years, were trying to get me into the latest music. The names they gave me, I had to google all of them. This is one of them
I was trying educate them to some of the music I listened to the Beatles, David Bowie, The Clash, Culture Club, New Order, U2 etc.
They hadn’t even heard of the Beatles

The Who came through my town recently, and I went to see them. In spite of being a pretty big fan, I’d never seen them live. Now they are in their late 70s, the two that are left, Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry. They perform with a symphony and a rhythm section of friends and relatives. It was very cool to be in the same space with them, and a bit sad to think of how their era is really dying out now. Pete Townsend has been quoted recently as saying he no longer likes touring, and he even said it during the show, so it’s no surprise he kind of fades in and out, though the first ten minutes of the show there was an incredible intensity about his presence. He still can play but not with the same energy as before, of course. Roger Daltry still brings it as hard as he can. At 78 he doesn’t always try for the high notes, but he can still hit them when he wants to. That guy is truly amazing.
Here is a video from what I would call peak The Who, recorded just a few months before Keith Moon’s death. Great video of Pete when he really was one of the best showman in rock. Imagine he’s on stage with one of its truly great front men, and you don’t know who to watch.
What does being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame actually entail? It always strikes me as one of these things that has more kudos for the people that run it rather than the people that are in it.
You know I absolutely and unhealthily love them but I can’t for the life of me even remotely understand their (especially Halford’s) obsession with being inducted into that institution. I’m not being elitist, I just don’t think that Jay-Z and Eminem are rock’n’roll, let alone people who deserve to be Hall of Fame material, therefore I have zero regard for RNRHOF as an institution.
It breaks my heart to know that he’s struck down with such an illness but it’s always great to see him get on that stage and play some riffs. If I could play guitar well, I’d definitely name him as my biggest influence.
