Looks like we have got a flourishing Renee + Renato MK2 happening with the two posters above eh
More like pop quiz…
…and why not. True genius, artist and philosopher. Such talents are rare in a world that needs it.
Semmy, thanks for posting…
That is an absolutely brilliant story, but also just as sad in equal measure
their catalog is a veritable anthem of my generation in this country.
we had a BBQ planned at my house for that date (40th birthday party) before the tour was announced. We ended up pulling my TV outside and setting up my home theatre so everyone could watch it.
Some of my faves in 1980s syn pop.
Enola Gay is a tuuuuuuuune!
…and to think we used to rave about some of the music videos back then eh Maria :0)
Love those songs except for ABC
That line - “If you judge a book by its cover, then you judge the look by the lover”
Probably my most hated lyric of all time
At the time, i didn’t know Enola gay was to do with the Atomic Bombing of Japan, i thought it was a love song.
@BigJon , i liked the melody, ABC lyrics were quite comical and cheesy in some of their songs.
It has very ambiguous lyrics. Enola Gay was also the name of the pilot’s mother, who he named the plane after, and it makes reference to her “Little Boy” both as the pilot and the code name of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
I can remember OMD being on Swap Shop or something similar explained it.
You have got me on a roll now …
3 of my favourite songs from that era/genre
Some quality songwriting at that time goes almost completely unrecognised.
Now, where did I leave my Rupert Bear scarf ?
Architecture & Morality is a monumentally good album. It’s also quite at odds with the times. At the point when synth technology and sampling devices were starting to gain traction they produced something that relied heavily on Mellotrons and tape loops - essentially techniques that the Beatles were using 15 years before. The results are hauntingly beautiful.
Incidentally, having mentioned the Beatles using tape loops, have you heard this outtake that was included on the recent Revolver re-release?

It sounds more Stockhausen than rock band. If you are familiar with the released version you can tell that the drums aren’t quite there and the vocals are more heavily electronically treated. They have also worked heavily on the tape loops. Fascinating as a work in progress, however.
Has an almost industrial feel to it
George Martin was an absolute genius and years ahead of his time.
Another exceptional 80s album -
Out of interest has anyone ever bought an album / CD without hearing it, by an unknown band, just on the strength of the cover art. (The cover of the above album is stunning)
I have once - an album by G Love and Special Sauce - it had a picture of a purple electric guitar on the cover and I just had to buy it.
I was not disappointed.
