Do any new minority stakeholders have to demonstrate that they are fit and proper as majority owners need to?

What was the point of the video there Sky? Presenter just said ā€œA consortium led by former QPR co-owner Amit Bhatia is in talks to buy a minority stake in Liverpool FCā€ 4 times with a little variation each time.

If a deal isn’t close, why did Bhatia resign from his position at QPR after 18 years? It can’t be coincidental.

exactly this!

Even the BBC has it - it’s close

How much are we talking here - half of the fee for a midfielder who had 6 decent months or send the bus to pick up the PSG squad?

If you get the reference great.

The last time the club sold a minority stake, it was to Dynasty in September 2023. According to Dynasty then;

The investment will primarily be used to pay down bank debt incurred during the global pandemic and capital expenses made to enhance Anfield Stadium, build the AXA Training Center, repurchase Melwood training ground and, most recently, acquisitions during the summer transfer window. Longer term, the partnership between Dynasty and FSG will also explore further growth opportunities for Liverpool F.C.

I assume it would be much the same, chunk of cash to clear down any debt, and allow for continued growth.

I’m intrigued as to what the possible permutations might be. Bhatia is the son in law of Lakshmi Mittal, who is worth 26Billion. He has the backing of the family.

When Dynasty invested is was for 2-300M (I can look it up, but it was that sort of sum).

Talks with Bhatia are over a ā€œsignificant minority stake.ā€ I take that to mean a much higher level than Dynasty, but we will see.

Apart from waiting to see what the level of investment will be, I’m also wondering if there will be a mechanism for a complete buy-out, in time?

John Henry and many of the FSG people are old people. At the least, a significant minority sale should see them reap some of the rewards of their shrewd investment, so I can see the appeal for them.

But as ever, I’m wondering what the mid-to-long term game is.

Clearing any debt nd freeing up interest payments - if only to FSG - can only be a good thing. Any more we will see.

ChatGPT tells me there was speculation about Mittal Sr, I guess this guy’s FiL, being interested but it never amounted to anything.

The interesting thing about this is its another remnant of ā€œFSG is putting Liverpool up for saleā€ stories from a few years ago. They were based entirely on learning that a couple of investment banks had been hired to put together pitch decks for prospective investors, which is a huge leap to make from that evidence. FSG utterly rejected the stories, and reiterated what they had said since day 1, that they were always interested in bringing in new strategic partners where they could be found, and this was just part of that process.

Makes some sense. FSG are still largely US focused with many of their top team who were instrumental in buying our club getting on in age. Selling 30% for that sort of Money both raises cash for the group but also helps puts a price on the rest of the club.

Also opens the door to prospective sale to the consortium down the road given how wealthy the Mittels are, and in the meantime presumably greater presence of owners in England (I’m assuming Amit and some of the others in the consortium are based in the UK?)

Is this the same Mittal family?
