Itā€™s been 10 hours since FadetoBlack posted his latest review of the owners performance.

Unlike the rest of you, I decided that in all fairness, I wanted to take time and review his points that he laid out for itā€™s own merits. I analyse it from all angles and perspectives, took data from the last 10 seasons and put it up into an excel spreadsheet and even slept on it.

The conclusion is that, yes FadetoBlack is still talking shite.

True, one of the main reasons why they hired Slot is because heā€™d previously shown that he can work on a budget and improve young players. Itā€™s no secret that FSG always wanted to implement that model, starting with Rodgers. Itā€™s logical and sustainable.

My main criticism of them is the failure to properly act post-Edwards - they looked like they were busier trying to sell the club at the time than find a proper sporting director who would challenge Klopp and identify signings that would have prevented or at least mitigated the slump in 2022/23 and maybe improved the side for a title challenges in 2023/24 and 2024/25.

If Slot manages to win the title with this team, it will be on him and I completely agree with you on that. He still hasnā€™t got any proper backing from FSG in terms of strengthening his playing staff. Iā€™ll be focusing on this season, obviously, but Iā€™m really interested to see what happens in the summer window given all the contract decisions, youngsters coming through and positions that need strengthening.

Iā€™m sorry but thatā€™s bollocks. Slot inherited a brilliant squad from Klopp (also appointed under FSG) with a mix of talented young players and experienced players who have won it all. We do need to strengthen in some positions but there arenā€™t too many players that can improve what we already have. Iā€™m sure theyā€™re working on that.

Arneā€™s done a brillliant job and if we win the title itā€™s also due to his staff, the players, and the systems and structures that have been developed while FSG have been owners. The systemic elements seem to be completely ignored by the FSGOUT crew

I disagree about the strength of the squad. Obviously, there are world class players there but Klopp also left an expensive striker who is still a square peg in a round hole and his only rival for that position is brilliant but extremely brittle. Trent has been wildly inconsistent since 2021/22 ended, Gravenberch was a shadow of a player he is now, Szoboszlai was poor throughout the second half of last season, Gakpo was moved about regularly, resulting in inconsistent performances, Konate ended the season as a third choice because of poor formā€¦

Almost all of them turning their form around is something that I attribute solely to Slot and his staff. Weā€™ll see what happens, maybe teamā€™s form falls off a cliff like last season but so far, both the individual improvement and the collective improvement have been remarkable for most of the time.

FSG havenā€™t done anything of note to actually strengthen the team that finished last season, itā€™s as simple as that. The next summer will be interesting from the point of view of strengthening the squad because I donā€™t expect that this team will stay the same come the end of summer transfer window.

I think this a little unfair.

We know that there were extenuating circumstances as to why we didnt do much business last summer.

The club did try to get Zubi, succeeded in getting Chiesa.

The best thing for Arneā€™s start with us may actually have been in not having the club make a raft of signings. He gets to work and better understand the players he has, and what he wants or needs going fowards.

He is also somewhat shielded from hyped expectations.

Given how frequently we see clubs make signings whether they are wanted by the manager or not, and how it can create problems, iā€™m happy we are more restrained on that front.

We were on for a quadruple with this squad before the wheels came off in March.

Slot has done an incredible job and clearly played a role in improving the players you mentioned. But, as he has said himself many times, he was lucky to inherit such a talented squad and also the characters, leadership and culture that Klopp fostered over the years. Slot has also said he relies on the player leadership group.

Itā€™s a team effort!

I find it very strange that for whatever success that we had over the last decade, FSG have absolutely nothing to do with it for some quarters of the the fans. Donā€™t get me wrong, to me its a team effort. Whatever success or failures we had over the years, it is all down to the combined effort of the playing squad, the manager and backroom staff, the administrative staff team, the fans and definitely the owners. We cannot blame the owners for all the failures and give none of the credit to them for the successes.

There is a difference between whether the team absolutely needs more players and whether its FSG who prevented it from happening. Klopp could have probably stayed longer if he did not have to explain every single season to some quarters of the fans that the owners have always been supportive and we have to treat every player in the squad as a human and not kick them aside and go out and just buy someone and not find a solution for every player in the squad. Like it or not, the humane treatment of squad players even those on the fringe and not enough or those who are perpetually injured is the reason that Liverpool FC is so different from other clubs. And I will never give that up just so we can win the transfer window every season.

The fact is that 90% of football fans around the world would love to have our players, trainer, staff and owners.

Weā€™re top of the league in England and Europe. What more do you want?

Thatā€™s not an entirely fair assessment. FSG funded the midfieldā€™s overhaul the prior summer and during the season it was clear that the squad was as strong as anyoneā€™s. We fell off because of injuries, not because of a lack of quality or options.

I too would have liked another defender and probably a midfielder, but theyā€™d be bonuses filling out an already complete squad.

So they hired a yes-man who wouldnā€™t demand signings, but if he wins the league itā€™s in spite of them?

What the fuck?

Why is that FSGā€™s decision? I thought we had people in senior management positions within the club that manage this kind of stuff.

Please behold the magic of a second rate manager transforming cheap players into worldā€™s best team.

Or maybe both were good in the first place?

While Arne has ticked every box in his appointment at Anfieldā€¦ It does however, still remain his maiden season.
One box left to be addressed, is whether he can spot a player from another club that would fit into his playing styleā€¦ Nothing worse on his resume, than spending tens of millions on his request for a player, only for the playing side to fail miserablyā€¦!
All in allā€¦ the guy has had enough to contend with, in uprooting and moving to another country/culture/job etcā€¦ If he thinks the players he has inherited can do a job; which to date they most certainly are doing; then why not give him his 12months honeymoon period, remove the pressure of getting a signing right, before screaming for new players to be added to his squad.
We have got less than 6months to keep going the way we have done since he landedā€¦ lets go for it, with those we have

No he obviously demanded signing, which they refused.

On top of that, the poor sod is now being forced to sing praise of the previous team AND forced to prove them right by putting himself and the whole team in pole position to win titles.

The horror.

To go back to the points made by @FadeToBlack, itā€™s a fucking bizarre line of attack.

FSG sanction Ā£140m rebuild of the midfield, only for the manager to announce his departure a few months later.

So rather that appoint a manager who would jettison those players, and demand another really expensive rebuild, they choose a manager who can continue the work the Klopp started.

And we end up six points clear, with a game in hand at the end of January, and top of the European league.

So I donā€™t really understand what they are supposed to have done wrong here.
