The R.I.P. thread

Yes, really sad loss notwithstanding a couple of borderline faux pa’s, often associated with his generation! He had a wonderful voice and manner.

Also a very good player, something that’s often forgotten given his accomplished career as a commentator.

Absolutely the right stuff. A proper hero. The pioneers of flight are all at the top of my list of absolute stars. Happy to say I’ve seen his Bell X1. A very sad day but to put it into a cricketing perspective, a damn good knock sir, well done.

I find his story a little bit sad. I think what he really wanted was one of the first Astronauts wasn’t it?

I don’t know the exact history, I’d imagine (given the way they did things) that test pilots had to be fearless daredevils whereas astronauts needed to be very well educated superhumans.

Quick google:
Yeager was foremost a fighter pilot and held several squadron and wing commands. … (Yeager himself had only a high school education, so he was not eligible to become an astronaut like those he trained.)

I’m pleased for you, but you really should keep your eyes forward at the urinals.

(Seriously though, what a guy)

That reminds me of this epic poem from Joe Wilkinson (1:10)

Shame and massive loss. I read a book of is once on some funny moments he’d had in golf. Honestly a hilarious book.

More sad news, a national treasure, RIP Dame Barbara, will always remember her as Peggy Mitchell and the Carry on films.

RIP Barbara Windsor. I’ll always remember that scene in Carry on Camping with Kenneth Williams and Hattie Jacques. Classic Carry on.
