I understand what flip flops are. I just don’t see why you’d call them soccer sandals. To me they’re not connected with football anymore than with swimming, hanging out at the beach, or, if you’re Australian, working in a bank.
I don’t understand it either. especially since my son has a pair of “And1” sandals like these and they’re a basketball brand.

Not sure whether he is liked much by those who listen to football commentary but he is who i associate most with Scottish commentary from when i used to listen to Radio 5, and will miss him.
