The Referees or The Twelfth Man

No, disagree with me and I’ll consider if an actual argument is put forth.

Spout deranged partisan nonsense and I’ll call it for what it is - ducking nuts. And anyone who argues Gomez deserves a penalty is just not being serious

You said “you people are fucking nuts”

Yet you are the one who clearly misrepresents what happened in that instance.
You used NFL terminology to dramatise something that really didnt happen. Gomez ran 40 yars to smash the defender?
That didn’t happen. Its your view, with zero actual evidence.
His run was to receive the ball, and that run was impeded by the defender. Thats a foul.

Why anyone would consider that he made the run simply to “smash” anyone makes no sense.

I know no one gives a shit about my opinion on the matter but, if Cody tries to slip the ball in on the overlap it’s a pen, because he didn’t it becomes an off ball coming together. Gomez has no impact on the play other than potentially preventing the defender from attempting to challenge. Would’ve been interesting if we did score. I understand the penalty shouts but it’s also one of those if it was on the other foot and given we would be screaming the PGMOL is bent… etc etc.

Fair enough. Its an honest assessment.
If Cody slips the ball through its a pen?

I think the impeding of Gomez run effects play, so it should be a pen.
But its just our opinion.

It was a penalty.

Referees somehow seem disinclined to give those against Liverpool. It’s either the money or the fact that they don’t like being told what to do by the sheer outrage of the crowd.

I’ve only seen it once and it didn’t look like one to me.

Has anybody got a decent clip of it ?

Here: x.com

Tete steps across to block Joe’s run.

I meant to post this earlier, but did anyone notice how bad that fat linesman was? I usually find the assistants to be pretty decent but I noticed a few instances were Harrington overruled him on throw-ins and the like which were clearly flagged the wrong way.

I think Harrington has a mare on Saturday, but the officials are a team and I think he was badly let down from all sides.

hmmm … that clip looks pretty incriminating for the Fulham defender. But… Gomez wasn’t running there to receive a pass because Gakpo was clearly shooting. I think the momentum of his run meant a collision was inevitable. For me the defender is trying to get across to block the shot.

Gomez isnt a mind reader to be fair.
He is running to receive a pass, but Cody takes the shot.
Look again, Tete steps into the trajectory of the run.

He does so before the shot is taken as well. I didn’t think it was a penalty when I saw it on Saturday, but if it had been given, that clip wouldn’t have overturned it.

His eyes are on Gakpo and he is moving into what he expects to be the space of the expected trajectory of the ball. I’ve seen it in real time and Gomez comes out of nowhere at 100mph.

Let’s face it ; we’re never given 50/50’s anyway.

Probably the best take on the whole debate.

50/50s?

We’re rarely given stonewall decisions.

It really wasn’t. It was an accidental coming together, the Fulham player has no intention of fouling Gomez, and Gomez runs into him as he is trying to get a foot to the shot. It would be outrageous to give that, and you’d be fuming it was given against us.

Fulham should have had two players sent off, possibly Diop, but certainly Perriera, as his challenge on Gravenberch was premeditated shithousery. He is literally looking at his leg as he stamps on it.

I have seen much softer shit given.

I remember saying to my brother who’s a casual fan. That there were much more serious incidents which went unpunished. Still said at the end of the first half, we will win or get a point.

So have I, but that doesn’t make it a penalty.
