The Referees or The Twelfth Man

Actually, he was OK apart from the fact that he didn’t show him the yellow immediately. It looked like he was consulting with VAR before he decided on which card to give, whereas I believe he is meant to make a decision first and VAR can check.

Edit - I suppose he could have been consulting with his pitch-side assistant. The delay still seemed weird. It was only confirmed by the commentators at half time.

Well, referee has only applied the same criterion as in situations when Mings went kung-fu on Gakpo or when Doku did the same to Mac Allister. This is actually a positive development when it comes to the improvement of refereeing performance and consistency, so I’m not really sure what you’re getting at here.

The ball was gone before he lifted his leg. Even if he was trying to slow his own momentum, don’t do it with a foot high up on the opponent’s chest. That looked awful, so dangerous.

Without watching it, is it the one where drogba gets booked for being studded in the chest by Evans?

I can’t quite work out what the yellow card was for there. Wrong shirt?

Evans got his retaliation in first. :joy:

Drogba doing an admirable Tiswas-style dying fly there.

Drogba could have KILLED Evans…

The Referees or The Twelfth Man…

… have fleeced us again.

Kavanagh is just a bit shit, isnt he. He sort of plays path of least resistance. If you appeal enough you get it.

He’s at least as good as Michael Oliver, which is supposed to be interpreted as praiseworthy

That’s on par with, “my post New Years turd, has been promoted to an elite sh!t”

Pawson and Madeley on Sunday which aren’t the worst.

Get up to speed. It’s the “threshold”.

This threshold can be stretched to fit any narrative you can come up with. So the hold was not detrimental to Hugo as he managed to get his pass in to another player.

Ergo, not enough in the holding. In other words, you are encouraged to go down to win a pen.

Slot just talked about it in his post-match interview. Said he’s asking himself if he should change the general attitude of the players and encourage them to go down when there is a contact in the box. Saying he doesn’t want to do it because it’s not ‘who we are’, but still asking himself the question, and regretting that our fair-play isn’t more recognized and rewarded by the refs..

That penalty not being given definitely changed the game and helped Leeds to hold out further in their defensive attitude. It’s scandalous imo and should be harshly questioned by the media. Not holding my breat though.

it goes back to them making it actually harder on themselves by blurring the lines…

a foul is a foul is a foul is a foul.

We drew today because we were not good enough to open them up and score. Bad day on our side. With that said, the ref was really poor. He gave their defenders lots of free kicks for barely any contact. Big groks just flopped whenever we went near them, and Kavanagh was happy to oblige, all day long.

In addition to that, he couldn’t wait to give nothing to us e.g. Chiesa, beat his man, going outside, very threatening. Defender, left back, grabbed his shirt outside the box and kept hold of it, aggressively pulling Chiesa down inside the box. A strong shout for a penalty but Kavanage instantly dismissed it out of hand.

In the first half a Leeds player put a full boot through Bradley’s head too, but again, Kavavagh couldn’t wait to wave it away as not a foul. We’ve seen players get treated for 5+ minutes for less.
