I’ve got my eye on Leicester. It’s quite possible they will lose their final three games, against United, Chelsea and Spurs. They will probably beat Newcastle, but ideally they drop points there too, so they start to feel the jitters.
On our side we have to win a few games on the spin, and we have proved wholly incapable of doing that this season.
Could not agree more. It reeks of arrogance to not want to play in EL. We had a less than desired season and this is the result. Get on with it and play EL football. We are already known to bin off domestic cups now we are “too good” to play EL? That’s a really shitty attitude to have.
I have absolutely no reservations about Europa League. In fact, I feel we have a score to settle after losing the 2016 final. Although the logistics will be rather challenging, it would be a good competition to play in.
I’m so out of the loop… I thought I followed football!
What the heck is the Conference League?
As for Europa League, it’s all a matter of perspective. If you are on the way up, it’s lovely to get in there as you feel your way into European football. If you are on the way down, you can’t help but notice the lack of prestige compared to the CL, and the aching sense that you are in the wrong competition!
Still, you get what you get and you have to deal with it.
@Iftikhar - thank you for the info. I can’t believe this passed me by.
My initial reaction having read up on it is no, nope, nada, nee, non, nay, nein, nyet.
Bunch of balls!
Third tier of European football? Whole thing is a farce. We have known for many years that the various governing bodies are corrupt, and not doing a good job of hiding their ambition of more games and more money.
Meanwhile, the players suffer.
I’ve made this point a few times, but I will do so again. The European Super League was wrong on a number of levels and as such, was a cack handed effort. But I can well understand the big clubs wanting more of a say in shaping and running the show, as UEFA are crap on any number of levels, including the complete inability to enforce their own rules and stop massive financial doping at Man City.
Europa League depends logistically on the draw, I personally looking at the 3 English clubs probably didn’t travel much further.
Arsenal probably travelled less than us.
It’s what will be if we end up in the conference league of Europe then just play the reserves, you probably send out the youth side and still get through on home ties.
By the time we kick off against Burnley we would have had 9 points available to us from Southampton, United and West Brom with the 3 points up for grabs against Burnley taking us to a maximum available of 12. I’m not sure how many we will get but Leicester have a maximum of 6 available against United and Chelsea and Chelsea 9 against City, Arsenal and Leicester. They can’t both pick up maximum because of the head to head. City might well want to send a message to Chelsea too after the FA Cup and ahead of the CL final. I fancy both teams to drop enough points that we could catch one or even both. Could. It’ll all depend on us and how well we actually do.
Is it weird I kind of want this shit show of teams bottling top 4 to end and just put us out of our misery. All this pressure and changes and us dropping important points have been draining.
