Imagining that Ukraine continue to make territorial inroads, and with Ukraine expected to continue to their pre-2014 borders, is there appetite in Crimea for liberation and returning the territory to Ukraine?
It seems reading up on it that Crimea is really messy in terms of how they identify themselves. We can’t just look at ethnicity (which is majority Russian).
Is there a case for Crimean to be an independent state with protections from simply being annexed again by Russia like they were in 2014? (though it was a fake independence as a means to be annexed)
Protections through NATO for instance?
