I didn’t think that I’d see this in my lifetime: a textbook fascist holding an official, government-authorized public speech on European soil, calling for total war.
This guy is all of this: everything in his behaviour - the way he speaks, his voice, the choice of his clothes - speaks only one language: pure and unbridled call for violence and hate. Mussolini / Hitler properly reincarnated.
Such a shame BRIC abstained from condemning Russia’s annexation. The fact that Russia is not universally isolated on the international stage (despite threatening genocide, a world war, and nuclear arms use) is a sad indictment of the international community.
I know we have spoken about Brazil, India and China before and their right to act in their self-interests. However irrespective of Russia being an ally or historical resentment towards the west, there comes a point where basic principles of humanity, security and international law should trump these.
When Putin is literally ranting about Satan, holy wars, sexuality, nuclear weapons and nazis there surely comes a point were you go, you know what perhaps I don’t want to be affiliated with him.
The greatest disappointment is Brazil of those lands, as you can expect no morality from China and India, given their relations with Russia and their regimes. Ideally, both Brazil and India should be punished harshly for siding with Russia, while it is a bit more difficult to sanction China for it. But India needs the West in their strategic battle with China, so hopefully they will get burnt for siding basically with the modern Nazi Germany (the West does not really need, truly, to support them against China in everything and they can forget Russian support for that). I really hope India pays a price. If only to act as a detterant for other countries in the future.
Not at the cost of letting Russia get away with it. Paradoxically, for the safety of humanity, Russia must be made to understand that any use of WMD will result in its annihilation. I’ve been banging on about assassinating Vlad since he crossed the line in 2006 with the Litvinenko polonium poisoning to various security types I interact with (until this year they all thought it ‘too risky’; now its ‘not possible’): there have been multiple opportunities and I still think it is something that should be planned. All the talk about ‘but who will replace him’ isn’t actually a concern as a new leader won’t be held to have the same responsibility for what has occurred and will be much easier to bribe/placate/pressure toward a more acceptable standoff.
Just so I’m clear, you would accept mutually assured destruction in a full scale nuclear war, in order to hold Russia accountable for what they are doing in Ukraine?
Respectfully, I disagree. What they are doing is awful beyond belief, but we need to find a way out of this that doesn’t ratchet it up to the level of MAD.
Obviously if Putin is ousted, preferably by his own people, that is the preferred option. Mobilizing the people to go to war is failing, and they are also failing on the ground as Ukraine takes its territory back. The risk of Putin deploying a tactical nuke are rising, but hopefully that will be avoided, as well as escalation from there.
I’ve long said that his own people will eventually remove him. Hopefully we are near to that.
Assassinating Putin would mean automatic war if the FSB even got the slightest whiff as to who the likely perpetrator was. Not even Russia kills Zelensky when they failed to capture him at the dawn of their spec ops. It would be an enormous escalation and it would be by the West. Russians would unite in a way we have no where seen and it would be a total disaster. Assassinating him in 2006, before territorial agression, would also be out of the blue totally even lacking the slightest Casus Belli (murdering a spy on foreign soil is hostile, but hardly cause for war unless you are looking for it ) and would make the state behind it a “mad man” and global Bad Guy.
I suggest you did not think this properly through.
I suggest it is certainly a concern and that you are too frivolous here. While I hope Putin dies tonight from a stroke, I am certainly interested in his replacement as right now, only Nationalists and Fascists seem to be empowered in the reigning political climate in Russia. An actual True Believer hardcore
Ultra Nationalist taking over wouldn’t be grand.
So this big explosion is actually a video from May. I hesitated to share it due to no context, and I should have not posted, but it was too big not to share.
