The Russian Invasion of Ukraine (Part 2)

He tweeted that Ukraine needs to sue for peace and give up the annexed areas to Russia. He was then told by the Ukrainian Foreign Minister to fuck off - exact words, on twitter. He then came out a couple of days later and said that Taiwan should give up their claim of independence from China.

He is an odious cunt that thinks the big and powerful have the right to bully the little guy and push them around.

Oh I know! He is a cunt and now his feelings are hurt and so he’s making threats to show his power. But I do wonder whether there are real costs for changing satellite flight plans to focus on the Ukraine region.

Musk was joking

or as others call it “making veiled threats”

It’s a tangled mess when powerful individuals in non-government roles get involved in geopolitics. Initially it sounds lovely that they have the means to help. Here’s Starlink. Enjoy.

But it isn’t an official thing, so apparently Ukraine is beholden to the whim of an unstable narcissist.

Now, you might argue that certain governments have within their ranks such dubious characters, but the point there is that they represent a government of a country, so there are checks and balances, and the means within those countries to change their leader and so on and so forth.

A powerful billionaire who get involved like this, via Starlink, is lovely… to a point.

When he starts tweeting solutions and presuming to speak on behalf of Ukraine about what they should do, he rightly gets short shrift.

But then he wants to take his ball home (well his Starlink) because they rightly told him to f-off.

I suppose there’s no such thing as a free lunch. Starlink is definitely not a free lunch. It looks to be a mere service that Ukraine will purchase from a vendor, which is not quite the knight in shining armor image Musk would want to portray.

In reality, they have limited munitions. Putin just hopes that nothing like the Kerch bridge will happen again, in which case, he must placate the fascists with massive strikes.

Ukrainian estimate of Russian missile stocks:

Note: they can’t just expend them all, since they supposedly need them against NATO.

Also:

These are getting intercepted more and more. Reportedly around 80 percent + shoot down rate. In the intial days they were a real terror though.

When / If the Ukranians retake the whole of Kherson region , would the bridge be within the range of their artillery , and do you think they would target it ?

Comments (of the more polite kind) of Macron’s statement that NATO will not strike Russia with nukes if Russia nukes Ukraine and where Macron stated that we do not want a world war, and then on Musk:

The issue I have with all this is that Putin weasels out of this current clusterf*** of his making and becomes a poster child for a future ruler… “weren’t we great when he was around, when we gave the west a bloody nose because of their imperialistic machinations and we ruled… stuff. We need to be more like that!”.

Where does this end in a way that brings home to Russia (and a wider audience) that he was just another despot - just like Kim, Pol Pot or any number of past failed leaders…

If Ukraine wants to strike deep in Krim with long range fires, they need to recapture Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol and get to the Sea of Azov, but they would still need a bit more long range missiles. Note on this map where the Kerch strait is located.

If you want to messure Kilometers, then this map is helpful

HIMARS of the kind Ukraine has, got cirka 78 km range. TOCHA ballistic missiles, of which Ukraine has a few, has around 120 km range.

Edit: for range messurement:
