Evil treachery
This looks like a really bad joke. ![]()
I can’t imagine that Ukraine or the EU for that matter go along with this travesty.
I would love to see Zalenski pull a blindsider on Trump and Putin and agree to it on the condition that US gives nukes to Ukraine.
Lets see how kean Putin is for the deal then?
I think it would be better that for every reduction in the Ukrainian army twice as many American soldiers are sent and stationed in the Ukraine. To assure Ukraine’s defence.
I doubt Russia would attack Ukraine if that meant killing Americans and what that would lead to.
I love both ideas above, nukes to Ukraine to establish their own ultimate deterrent, or US troops on the ground to ensure their defence.
I don’t think either deal would be agreed by America, and even if they were, unfortunately under Trump, America is not a reliable ally for Ukraine, and might not even be an ally, so the deal would likely be reneged on.
Trump, as he always has been, is firmly in Putin’s pocket. Which of course begs the question, what sort of kompromat does Putin have on him?
The EU needs to arm Ukraine to a much greater extent, giving it the ability to not only defend itself, but strike deep into Russia, to hurt them and make them think twice.
Does the EU have the funds, or the stomach, to do that?
If not, then Russia will ultimately take what it wants to take. Eastern Ukraine now, then pause to regroup and rearm, maybe even for 2-3 years, and then go back in to take more. And that’s before we get to other countries that Russia might like to annex, such as the Baltic states.
It’s awful that we are here, but this is the reality with America, under Trump, not recognizing a cold war style enemy in Putin, and instead cosying up to him and enabling him.
I think this should be Ukraines negotiating tactic. All land returned or US sends troops AND nukes to Ukrain.
I can’t see America agreeing to that, especially with Trump in Putin’s pocket. It would be nice if they did, mind.
Ukraine needs a reliable ally. It is currently not America, who have helped them somewhat, but deep down (and not so deep down) under Trump seem more on Russia’s side than anything else.
Who will be Ukraine’s reliable ally? I can’t see anyone beyond the EU doing this, and for the EU it will boil down to stomach and funds. And if neither is found, Russia will encroach all the more.
I read somewhere that there is one thing going against Russia in the middle term, and that’s a negative demography. Contrarily to former periods, Russia hasn’t the means to wage long wars by sacrificing tens of thousands of men on the battlefield, because it will hamper its economy endlessly after that. So, according to this expert, they have a window of roughly five years since the beginning of the war to achieve their ambitions in Ukraine. After that, they’ll have to seriously reduce their current military scope. Still according to him, that excludes any danger of them trying to expand even further, even if they achieve all their targets in Ukraine.
I wonder if @Magnus has an idea about that? I’d be curious to know if this point about demography is an accurate statement. If true, it makes it all the more infuriating that the USA aren’t ready to support Ukraine in their struggle for survival, as it’s then only a matter of time until the Russian hot-air balloon comes down.
Russia is trying to deal with its manpower issues by recruiting from Africa and Asia; at times without even clarifying that the job is to go to the front and be used as cannon fodder. And that’s without taking in consideration cases like the N. Korean “volunteers”.
If Ukraine was properly supported, it would have humiliated Putin; instead thanks to the inept Europeans and the absolute moron in charge on the other side of the pond, not only will he get rewarded, but he’ll be further emboldened to launch another offensive war.
There was a comment up thread that many countries will regret not clamping down harder on Russia. I would disagree. Europe will pat themselves on the back and say, “situation well managed”, Trump will get a prize and other countries will see it as a minor meh.
this peace deal that has been presented to the Ukraine from the US got me thinking (tin foil hat time)
it looks to me a deal that Russia put it together,
then the US presented it as there deal for peace,
it seems to be a horribly one-sided deal, but Donald doesnt care he just wants to end the war.
Donald wanted to present it as it makes him look its his deal and he’s the peace maker and it’ll help his chances of getting his coveted Nobel Peace Prize.
IMO, Europe will look to talk Ukraine out of accepting the deal due to worries about future attacks, plus letting a Ukraine influenced by Russia into the EU, and will guarantee a continued support for Ukraine.
Donald will then wash his hand of this problem, say he tried to broker peace and blame Europe for not getting peace, then he will look to bring the US out of NATO.
like i said tin foil hat time…
Not sure about that. Can they keep Ukraine going without the US? They have economic considerations and domestic pressures to consider. The US has been played by Putin in the knowledge that Europe doesn’t have the appetite for a fight.
it’ll be very difficult for the Ukraine to keep going without the US’s aid,
and i agree some countries in Europe dont really want a war,
But they might not have a choice, if Putin decides he wants another SMO in another EU country after been emboldened by what he got out of Ukraine.
its scary times
Sudetenland
In my opinion the war was already lost 10 years ago when they walked into Crimea with no repercussions of any pain. They will not stop. Why should they? This war has proved that the rest of the world can do nothing but posture after posture. All the aids only prolonged the war and Ukraine has never looked likely to win the war. Economic sanctions have been harder than before but ultimately not hard enough.
A good take on just how ominous and shameful the deal that has been cooked up by Witkoff and Dmitriev is.
So true so sad.
