The Space Thread

Looking forward to some analysis on the picture on some YouTube channels.

It’s not photoshopped…

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Converted to visible light I think as JWST only looks at the infa red end of the spectrum.

The looking back in time thing is both cool and frustrating I find. I find it difficult to imagine what would look like now for example.

Yep, it’s an ir camera, that’s why it need to be so cold hence the L2 point and huge complicated sunshade (and delays and costs)

Indeed. Also fascinating that the laws of thermodynamics mean that getting stuff to cool down in space takes ages.

The inverse of pub plates.

They do look fake, which is testament to how good they are and that my brain cannot believe something that looks like that could be real…but I know it is!

Jnr just said “If that was in a movie, it would be fake” She watched the launch with me

Observers in the northern U.S. and Canada are still reporting auroras (overnight on July 19 and early on July 20, 2022). They are the result of the July 15 filament eruption and CME. There’s a chance that a slow CME left the sun on July 15, too. If so, it might reach us by July 21 and 22. And there’s a high-speed solar wind coming our way from a coronal hole. All in all, conditions for auroras appear good!
