The Spursy Thread

I was thinking replacing Maddison with Tel.

Tel is more of a striker, who can also do a job off the sides (mainly left).

BBC reporting that Spurs have had a bid for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi turned down.

Does tonight’s cup elimination mean the end for Ange?

Levy wont even let him on the bus to go home

If we had scored a 5th, I am dead certain he would have been gone. Still think it is likely with a 4-0, but a 5-0 would have invoked memories of AVB. As it was Levy had that vague snarl he was wearing for most of the 2nd half of that match that had AVB out the door.

Yeah can’t see him lasting plus now the window is closed Levy doesn’t have to tempt anyone with the cheque book.

Saying that what was out there looked a bit basic.

For months he’s been getting pelters for being naive by trying to continue to play Ange ball with so many key players out.

Today he adjusted and got a frankly terrible response. There was a quality mismatch, but the players looked lost. It feels like in terms of his job prospects this was the worst possible combo for him in terms of credability.

If they lose to Villa in FA cup definitely.

If Levy is looking for a reason to let Ange go, he has got plenty of them.

If Levy is looking for a reason to keep him on, they are running out, but giving him the FA Cup game might be one last roll of the dice to see what they can do.

I think they will let him go, but there is an element of bad luck too, as their injuries have been pretty brutal. Still, they have compounded that with a lot of naive and open play. Nice bloke and all, but I would have thought he will be shipped out soon.

Spurs will presumably start the scramble to try to bring Iraola in. He will likely have better offers to consider.

Just doubt he would go until the summer. What’s the benefit of heading there now?

Its not just this season though 20 defeats in last 45 Premier league games.

Yep. Plenty of reasons to let him go.

Yeah, don’t see it as remotely compelling for Iraola. He has a damn good chance of getting Bournemouth into Europe, and either staying or having his pick of jobs across Europe as the next big thing. Or he can jump to Spurs to oversee a fairly hapless side now?

He didn’t want to adjust, he said he wanted them to play more like they want to usually, but obviously it didn’t work out that way.

I have a feeling he would love the Barcelona job.

Ange might be begging for it but Levy’s not giving permission.

Spurs did get some prise for the win over Brentford on Sunday, and I think that “normal” result made some journalists think they had a chance tonight.

However even just a cursory look at the stats shows that Spurs were not the better side in that Brentford game. Brentford had 20 shots and 2.06 xG, Spurs had 13 (2 on target) for 0.86 xG. Their goals were a weird own goal and a very late counter.

Nothing has changed or shows it may be. They should have been beaten by Brentford.

After the game I had a look at a Spurs forum to see what they were saying about Ang but I was surprised to see a few references to us being a “horrible racist club” and I can’t imagine how even the most bitter fan could form that opinion.

Maybe harking back to the Suarez episode or historical anti Spurs fanbase chants?

Anyway they seem divided on the Ang question but majority wanting him gone now. I hadn’t realised quite how bad their injury list has been this season so maybe they should judge him when he has a full squad…

It’s a tricky situation, I don’t think there is one decision at Spurs that will make things click. There might be a few plus also, as often, time.

They tried to go for winners after Poch, it didn’t work. They went back a step, not even competitive anymore. Now they’re trying to return into that competitive mode.

Ange showed promise in his first season and they also have a lot of injuries this season.

Question is for the short term, how long do you tolerate such bad results/position in the league. And as a wider picture, what else other than the head coach role can be improved at the club.

I doubt if they change the head coach they’ll go back for a pragmatic proven winner (and it’s questionable now whether such a type would even come to Spurs now), but they’ll probably either stick with Ange a little longer or find another similar type to him and try to build their way back up again.
