That said , you could even hire nagelsmann etc etc and he’d still be a downgrade over Klopp and what Jurgen’s managed to do for the club.
Villa is interested in Ryan Kent. Do we have a sell on clause?
its a minefield, but given the right set of circumstances, simply saying in a presser ‘Trent has played better than that and he will know todays errors cost us’ isnt a cardinal sin.
throwing a player under a bus, to cover for your own failings ala Mourinho is toxic. because the players know. you know in the dressing room whether your mate has fucked up and is strong enough to come back, or whether the manager is just dumping on someone when a basic error by the player is more symptomatic of bigger issues with the set up.
but thats me being pedantic, i knew what you meant.
20% sell on profit clause apparently
Gerrard did gain a reputation for throwing his players under the bus, which didnt always go down well,
as some things should maybe kept in house
but it didnt do this guy any harm, publicly slating his players…
i guess it all boils down to the strength of character of the player, and how they react when the are slated publicly
It probably boils down to whether you keep winning or not. When you do, you can probably get away with it.
Captain fantastic was years ago time to close this thread.
Or merge it with the Villa one. Not sure why we need two threads.
Villa thread is for the club, Gerrard thread is for a former player
Partyly, but there are a lot of small things that could play a part. How it is addressed to the player will also have a major part, as will the players character and how resiliant they are to bouncing back from critisism and fucking up.
Players these days are pampered pussys too much compared to players from 30-40 years ago.
Think Stevie needs to be careful calling his players out in public.
Only one winner there unfortunately
Not sure if anybody saw the Stevie / Villa press conference but he came SOOOOO close to tearing up when asked about Liverpool and the Liverpool job.
So close
I watched Gerrards programme (Make us Dream) on Amazon last night. It concentrated massively on the weight of responsibility that was on his shoulders. Great programme but I felt they slightly missed how bad it actually was, glossing over the groin issues and all the other injuries that were basically a result of that responsibility. Then again, there’s only so much you can squeeze in.
I feel we’re piling it back on again, already talking of his next steps beyond Villa.
To be honest I don’t think you’d get away from it.
There isn’t a Liverpool fan alive who wouldn’t want to see Gerrard come back to Liverpool and won the PL trophy - the 1 thing that was missing from his time with us as a player.
I’m not sure there has ever been a player more deserved of winning the PL than him who never won it tbh
Maybe, just maybe and even more maybe, he’ll win the PL with Villa?
Chances are of course slim to none but it could still happen. Leicester '15-'16 cough cough.
Doing extremely well so far. May even qualify for one of the lesser European competitions this season at this rate. Considering they looked destined to be in a relegation battle that’d be a spectacular start!
Yeah it’s an amazing start. Winning the first couple of games against mid-table teams is one thing (new-manager bounce), but losing against the league heavyweights to then immediately bounce back and deservedly beat Leicester is no mean feat.
LFC next at Anfield next week-end. Let’s see how it goes.
Hopefully it will be his worst game as a manager so far
Worth pointing out too that it was a very narrow loss to City too.
I’m hoping that them coming to Anfield is a cracking game to be at live with an incredible atmosphere from start to finish and a high score line, something like 4-2 to us would be nice. Just anything to make sure its a great live game for my step son. He doesn’t do wonderful when it comes to attention as he has some issues. Last live game for him was this one (set up high expectations );
9/10. Dang.
