Great. He must have seen the light.
Or it was another made-up BS piece from the media.
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been named as the running favourite to become the next manager of Championship club Sheffield Wednesday. #lfc [liverpool echo]
Direct quotes from him so don’t think so
It would seem he’s gone for the money. I would.
Seems like he will be taking the Saudi job.
### Gerrard ‘set to take’ Al Ettifaq job
Steven Gerrard is ‘set to take over’ Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq, it has been claimed.
The Liverpool legend was strongly linked with the role in recent weeks, though looked set to snub this opportunity after commenting on the links live on Channel 4.
“A lot has been said in the media, a lot of it is not true,” he said last month when challenged on being linked with the job. “I was invited over there to look at a potential offer, which I did, and I have been analysing that over the last couple of days,” he continued. “But, as we stand right now, I won’t be taking that offer up.”
But the Athletic believe Gerrard is now expected to accept the role, with senior figures at the club ‘increasingly confident of securing his services’.
Tl/dr
They doubled the offer
I think also there is so much Saudi money sloshing around in football, golf and tennis and so many people taking it that it has begun to lose its stigma. Read an article yesterday where some female WTA player was saying how the Saudi money would be a good thing for women’s tennis by helping get the purses up.
Isn’t that the whole rationale with sports washing
Thought he’d turned it down a few weeks…obviously not…
End of his carrier, next stop, pundit.
Interesting idea. I saw a clip yesterday where it was revealed that in women’s rugby, England internationals were centrally contracted in 3 bands of £27k, £33k and £35k A YEAR. They earned some supplementary money from their clubs. Those that weren’t internationals basically had day jobs. They were not ful time professionals. You cannot live off your club salary.
Silly boy
Bobby, Robbie and now Stevie… not been a great few days.
More like Watthefaq SG.
Boke
Probably the end of him managing at the top level really
