Wish will well. Felt so bad he didn’t lift the EPL title as captain with us. Just love him.
Good that ettifaq (hoping it doesn’t have any religious meaning) rhymes with fucked.
You wouldn’t have expected that from the lad who barged his way to Chelsea until we skimmed a CL, helped shove Rafa out of the job and went on to manage the huns.
I couldn’t give a fuck if he goes and manages Al whoever they are.
Time to mute the thread. Sayonara.
Was an inspirational captain for us in a bleak era but the records will show he’s down the list when it comes to honours won as captain and he’s certainly no King Kenny.
In Arabic and Perisan, it means Union or harmony, in Urdu it means Coincidence/Accident or in agreement.
I am quite surpriser he has taken a job out there, thought he would coach in Championship for a year or so. It seems like the norm now for ex pros to work in the middle east for a year or two.
Look at this fat guy, following the money instead of his love for football.
I’ll always remember his fantastic talent and commitment as a player for us, but the current guy is just another c°nt, full stop. Once he’ll be done there, he’ll no doubt become pundit for one of the Arab TV chains.
Forgot the meaning in Urdu.
Maybe there is a reason above and beyond the obvious that just hasn’t surfaced yet…!
Time will tell I suppose, but in the meantime, his popularity will continue to plummet in the eyes of many that once adored him…!
Don’t know what that reason would be…
Sporting wise, I actually don’t think it’s now almost impossible for him to go back to Europe and get another chance or continue developing in general, even there.
Not exactly the same situation for different reasons, but Xavi was only at Qatar for two and a half years before going to Barca.
Stevie said once at the start of his coaching career that if he sees he’s hitting a certain ceiling and isn’t improving much, he wouldn’t be pursuing that career for a long time. Financially at least, he doesn’t have to.
Nope but if you had £40m in the bank that’s very nice. But doubling it for 2 years’ work but be much nicer.
No, I was talking about the future of his coaching career, not his move to Saudi, which is of course to a certain extent down to money. He won’t have to pursue coaching until he’s about 70.
Bastards - This is how they greeted Gerard apparently

Saudi side Al-Ettifaq used their own version of the ‘This is Anfield’ sign as they announced Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as their new manager
Some Liverpool fans weren’t at all happy with Al-Ettifaq copying the ‘This is Anfield’ sign in their Steven Gerrard announcement.
Gerrard was unveiled as the Saudi side’s new manager yesterday (July 3), pulling a U-turn having previously turned down their riches last month.
Two videos were used by the club’s media team to break the news, the first featuring footage from his playing days and managerial career so far, and the second taking inspiration from the famous Anfield sign.
It was a digitally created clip with a cartoon hand reaching up to touch a sign which instead read ‘This is Ettifaq’, with their badge underneath, while ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ could be heard in the background
Some Reds supporters weren’t fussed - but others were fuming. One tweeted: “What has our sign, our song, our ground, our history, our legacy to do with you? Show some respect!”
A second posted: “Gerrard is the greatest player I’ve ever witnessed but this doesn’t sit right with me. Fine if he wants to do it for personal reasons but don’t pull Liverpool into the sports washing. Sad day that Stevie G.”
“Don’t associate us with your sports-washing project,” echoed a third, with a fourth adding: “Never, ever disrespect us like that again.”
A fifth wrote: “If you can’t be Liverpool… may as well try to copy them. How tragic.” And a sixth said: “Stomach turning. Gerrard should be banned from Anfield.”
Gerrard went on to give his best attempt at Arabic as he spoke to his new club’s fans for the first time. While they aren’t backed by the nation’s Public Investment Fund, unlike four of their rivals, Ettifaq are hoping to mount a title challenge next season.
As such, Gerrard is being financial backed this summer. His former team-mate Philippe Coutinho has been linked with them, and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is reportedly a target of theirs
I dont think that its such a big deal the this is ettifaq sign or whatever stuff. People just outraged all the time at the moment.
Outrage at a person being tempted to do a job for a lot of money. How very dare he.
