Beautiful word, much much underused.

Jigger - Brummies use Entry commonly or Gully.
Cob - is a bread roll
Ta-Ra - is also similarly used.
We also use ‘Mom’ instead of Mum, ‘Island’ instead of Round about and ‘Gambole’ instead of forward roll.
A more recent one is to use the Cities dialing code 0121, in a saying. 0 1 2 1 do one 
.
I do find the local slang quite interesting, I remember working in Stoke and being called ‘Duck’ by a shop keeper. It still makes me chuckle thinking about it because I don’t think I have ever pulled a more confused face in all my life.

Pretty sure this one comes from the french “dénouement”, which is built on “nouer”, meaning the action of making a knot. The prefix “de” gives the opposite meaning.
So fittingly “denouement” literally means the state of undoing the knots.
(there is obviously plenty to be written on words which have navigated front and back across the Channel)

I was going to add it to my list of words… and there it was already as the last entry. 
I think it’s worth adding the more scientific background:
Petrichor is the smell of rain when it falls on dry ground. The aroma comes from a mixture of chemicals, including geosmin from algae and bacteria, ozone from the effect of lightning on air, and volatile oils released by plants.
It is possible to actually buy oils that will have that scent. I’m tempted to obtain some.

I seem to recall that jigger came up on QI as an unusual word and it had multiple definitions. The Liverpool meaning was described as “back passage” which resulted in juvenile tittering.
