They are free at my local supermarket, no need for a plastic coin which were free anyway. So in France they have been free for a long time.
The UK is such a rip off!
First time I ever saw a trolley needing a coin was in France 
Doesn’t surprise me, thing is go into the shop and they give you a plastic token free of charge. Ended up with loads bulging in my bag and don’t even need them anymore.

I am, got tooth ache so in bed sulking most of the time, that’s when I’m not gargling vodka. (gift from a lovely american guest at the hotel I work at).
