Help me out here. Why am I not getting this?

“I’m sorry for your loss.” This is appropriate to say to someone who is grieving. “Move on” was not part of the message to be communicated. It was intended as an action for the person who shared the brief message of condolence.
If it was part of the message, saying “Move on” is not an appropriate thing to say, especially at the funeral, as it can be taken to mean, “It’s time to get over it.”
The ‘joke’ is all in the punctuation. And obviously, after the need to explain (I didn’t share the joke, just reading along here) one might draw some conclusions about how funny it is.
