Caller describes it as “exploiting loopholes”…I shit you not.

I actually heard this plonker in the car on the school run, glad they posted it.

This was exploiting loopholes like Jeffrey Dahmer was slightly anti-social.

Almost certain the PL can’t enforce a points deduction in the EFL as they’re different organisations.

For all we know… the years succeeding this timeframe of fraud, up to present day, have been exactly the same, if not worse.

If for example it comes out that they have paid someone like Michael Oliver off the books or enticed him with other such gifts, which is not too much of a leap compared to some the present charges, then it would be safe to say, football really is fucked..!

Liquidate the cunts.
Then put them in the 4th tier of professional football.
And stick a 5 year transfer ban on them for good measure.

There were payment to Oliver, England and crew. They weren’t off the book payment, but its still pretty much the same mechanism as has got them in trouble here - flowing money through related companies (the UAE league) to city’s benefit. In this case the benefit is a bit more abstract and difficult to prove, but come the fuck on.

Never mind the impropriety, this is so beyond a blatant conflict of interest that if it wasn’t actually real you’d swear this is satire.

To my mind the period since the investigation should be null and void too. They won three titles in the time the investigation looked at. They won five more league titles after that period.

The latter five titles, Pep’s ‘glory years’ if you will, are a sham. Even if Man City were running a tighter financial ship by then (and their non-cooperation should come with the assumption that they were not) then their latter achievements all came on the back of being artificially inflated by vast cash injections that broke the rules.

I like the thinking in the Guardian piece above that indicates the other clubs do not feel that a one year drop will be a sufficient punishment. Is right. Their cheating went on for years and years. Their redemption arc - if one is even possible - should not be swift.

They’re just digging a bigger hole for themselves by the day. Anyone with a brain would see where all this is going, stfu, act contrite and hope the punishment doesn’t fit the crime.
These seem incapable of doing that. There is no coming back from this.

Of course it should. It’s also rumoured Rui Pinto has other stuff to reveal.

You know in 18 years of cheating, this is probably the first time an exec at City had been directly questioned about the cheating. He looks genuinely shocked that the question is being posed to him.

We can say the UK press are crazy when they turn up the dial but they’ve also been fucking awfully silent on this for almost 2 decades. I hope they make up for lost time.

We will finish in the Top 4 now instead of the Top 5.

Every time I head to TAN there is an extra few hundred posts on this thread, so apologies if my comments have already been discussed as I can’t get through them all.

So….of course we have the honour of playing them first after this debacle. How freaking brilliant for the Anfield crowd and subsequent match day supporters to taunt them with songs.

But then again maybe a bad time to play them given a likely siege mentality.

Whatever the penalty and outcome in the EPL, they just shift focus to CL and Cups. So they could still have a “successful” season?

“Its frustrating when fans rush to judgement”.

The fucking PM said this. What an absolute bell-whiff. To know this has dragged on for 5 years, purely through City’s actions to hide their guilt, and then to lecture fans for wanting justice to finally play out now that absolute guilt is known? Just fuck off.

He was mayor of Manchester during the period in question, wasn’t he? Wouldn’t be shocked to learn there’s a few related skeletons in his closet as well.

Do we know who leaked the ruling? It seems almost set up that this occurred just before our match with them.

By that I mean when our fans aren’t trying to sink our manager, Anfield can be very vocal and I think the fans will be the barometer of what abuse City will deserve at every away outing they head to. I believe we’ll demonstrate what is expected of fans whenever they come up against City.

My hope is that a punishment will be dealt swiftly and the home fans at every venue can force the PL’s and independent commission’s hand on that by ensuring that it’s never forgotten that a City title win this season would not be respected by anyone that follows football.

Mel Reddy in her brilliant series of posts was alluding to extensive reporting one of the papers did (I think the guardian) probably 5 ago or so about how much the UAE had inserted it into local Manchester politics and how reliant so much of their projects had become on UAE investment. On its surface it was a bit of a devil’s bargain because it had every indication of being an influence leveraging scheme by the UAE. But worse, a deeper dive revealed how bad so many of the projects were to the local manchester economy. Basically politicians trading away things of value for a quick political win for themselves only to reveal it was a stinker of a deal for the community.

Any politician involved is going to have a vested interest in this not blowing up
