I thought I had mentioned it at some point? But maybe it was when we were still at TIA.
Anyway, this legal drama City has been embroiled in has been very fun and interesting to watch from my seat. Of course, I’m not based in the UK, but the legal principles are not dramatically different in these situations and are akin to several cases I’ve handled in my work here.
Ah, i see the confusion. One of those statements is from Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Head of the City Football Group. The other is from Khaldoon Al Mubarak, a member of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.
We’ve yet to hear from Khaldoon Al Mubarak, member of the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs of Abu Dhabi, or Khaldoon Al Mubarak, member of the UAE Federal Government, or Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Presidential Special Envoy to China, or Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Board Member of ADNOC, or Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Boards of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, or Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairmen of the Board of the Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, or Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Board of Emirates Global Aluminium, or Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Mabudala Investment Company.
I know what you’re thinking, but surprisingly no. No relation.
The number of comments I’ve heard about big punishments being unfair to the current players astounds me. Every single player who has signed for their first team did so after the initial leaks. Only 6 of their players singed prior to the official announcement of the charges (and one of those is Kovacic who barely counts) and every single one of those will have known there was enough smoke related to the initial leaks and UEFA case to not be able to claim surprise at this.
With all of the focus of the resources City is pouring into fighting this, there isn’t enough being said of the pressure the Premier League is under if they cave to that pressure. Every other club, including those who have faced sanctions, are going to mutiny if City is let off with a relative slap on the wrist. And that could lead to legal backlash against the Premier League from clubs dissatisfied with any perceived inconsistency in how the rules are being applied and enforced. Which could lead to the collapse of the Premier League itself.
If I am not wrong, the PL itself is a company that splits itself 20 ways with each club holding an equal shareholding with 1 special share going to the FA. This means the PL is a self-regulating organisation. As long as 11 shareholders vote in total agreement for the whatever punishment Man City will get from the PL, Man City will get whatever sanctions they have from the PL.
I know professional footballers aren’t known for their intelligence levels…
…But you’d have to be a blind deaf cave dweller to have not been aware that 115 charges had been raised against the club you were about to be paid millions by.
I say they deserve all the bad karma coming their way.
