The Unreliable LFC Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Will people never learn? Look at what happened last time someone fed Jay Spearing after midnight.

Yup. I rate Endo mate. He looks solid. If he was say 23 years old people would have gone crazy with him. He should do well for us.

Nunez,Jota and Gakpo now play through the middle. We only have Diaz on the left so Mbappe would be a welcome addition for some depth.

Sure we’ll sell Nunez for 115m. Otherwise Chelsea can go cry in the corner. They got smacked by the Hammers and now they’re in panic mode!

I believe Liverpool had their first 2 moves planned out well in advance. The problem is that once those moves were made they had no ‘next step’ firmly in mind. They flirted with the likes of Thuram, Kone, and Lavia.

The problem with Lavia is they never valued him at the 50m that Soton wanted so they waffled. And then they made a desperate last minute bid for Caicedo WITHOUT agreeing personal terms first. Big mistake!

Now they brought in Endo, a 30 year old DM/CB for just 15m to please Klopp. And FSG is thinking, well if the manager is satisfied with just that, we’ll try to quietly PUT AWAY this 110m now before people notice we have money…

The club would have indicated the terms on offer to the player’s camp who would have said they were acceptable (perhaps with minor changes)… The deal did not falter because we failed to agree personal terms - chelsea simply offered much more money than than we were prepared to pay and the agent was willing to say anything to get us to bid for Caicedo.

Pretty sure the plan was two starting midfielders and then get a young midfielder and centre back to learn and develop (Lavia and Colwill). Obviously Fabinho and Henderson leaving meant we needed more so we bought in Endo. I’d still like another midfielder who can come straight in to the team but i just don’t see it happening. CB is a non starter now.

It feels like that now. But if Dom becomes a superstar, and he’s showing signs that he might, then it could be remembered like the Suarez window

I think the moves for Henderson and Fabinho were certainly unexpected. You can see how they might think it was too good a money to turn down for Fabinho given his drop off and a good opportunity to get Henderson’s bloated contract off the books too. But I doubt either were players we’d planned on, or considered selling.

But we talked about how drawn out those deals were and how long it took to complete. We should have had a clear plan once we’d entertained the offers or players had made intentions known. I reckon the bids for both those players were genuine but it didn’t feel like we were all in on the Lavia one to the point he was fully convinced and we were making progress with Southampton. And the Caicedo one sounds like we got played by his agent which isn’t really our fault.

I just think we’ve missed a trick or two this window. Same we did last summer when we ended up scrambliing around for Arthur Melo. Same we did the year we went into the season with only three centre backs. It’s like every season we go in with at least one glaring hole in the squad. This time we added Endo to plug one of those gaps but have we really done enough in midfield? We’ve not touched the defence again despite known issues and frailties there.

A week to go and hopefully we do something else but the way folk are talking im expecting nothing more than a late swing for Gravenberch which is no more than a 50-50 chance of being successful and perhaps a van den Berg like signing for the defence to replace Phillips.

i think this window has gone as most lfc fans expected of late.
We all knew we wouldnt do enough because thats what we do but the way we have gone about this window, panicking, has been shocking. Should never had let 1 of fab and hendo go without getting in someone first. We all know how this plays out…our window is done. No top quality player is coming in .

It had been clear for a while that Henderson and Fabinho’s time as regular starters and contibutors had come to an end. A replacement was needed for them well before the Saudis came calling but when that happened and it became obvious that both would leave, it seemed like we were caught off guard.

Initially, they were links only to Lavia who is 19, is not a DM, was probably not expected to start anyway and wasn’t considered a priority based on the intermittent negotiations that never bore fruit. Then it became apparent that Caicedo was still attainable and we went after him before pivoting back to Lavia and then settling for Endo. I’m not disregarding the latter, he could prove to be a steal, but the process of Lavia → Caicedo → Lavia → Endo doesn’t seem the most straightforward or logical one. Nor is going for Trindade who is also unavailable at this time. Not to mention that we still need a defender and there is nothing to suggest that the club is moving towards bringing someone in.

Maybe it’s just me but I look at how we did business with Edwards and how we do it now and it’s night and day. Just the fact that we knew for months that Ward was on his way out and the best solution we came up was a three month appointment of a Klopp connection, doesn’t sit right with me.

We have seen the transition from Fabinho,Henderson and Milner to Mac Allister ,Szoboszlai and Endo.We will now be able to use Jones(he’ll be fit) and Bajcetic instead of Kieta and Chamberlain. If we were to bring in a decent MF or CB,someone who would realistically be challenging for a starting spot in the first 11,then i would consider this a very successful transfer window.
For all the doom and gloom we are really only 1 player away from transitioning the engine of this team which was vital to our success and then pivotal to our more recent failures.

If Liverpool is sure Salah remain for another year, why here in Italy they speak about Liverpool interest on Chiesa?

Loads of good and fair posts here.

I think as it stands we’ve done too little and looked a bit of a mess doing it. But I’d still be really surprised if we’re done in this window, still expecting at least one more to come in. We’re definitely in better shape now than at the start of last season and have some really good players and a team capable of being the 2nd best team in the country if they have a bit of luck with injuries. But the defence still doesn’t look fit for purpose, not that they’re bad players but it’s not the right personnel for our new way of playing. Matip and Kostas don’t really have any place in this squad for me and if we end the window without getting a versatile centre back in, I’ll be frustrated.

Sooner a long term sporting director with a plan and a model comes in, the better. Let’s get back to at least trying to be the smartest people in the room.

I’ve been hearing those rumours for months.

The largest portion of our departing midfield was always injured. Last year countless called Hendo and Fab, liabilities at times, on the wane. Milner was 35. Curtis changed our team’s fortunes when he came back and Bajetic was a wonderful performer until his injury.
.
We are way in front of where we finished the season last year. No need for panicking.

Ill probably get pelters…I think citys recruitment has been really good this year. They havent over paid for anyone and replaced the out goings well.
Nothing seems a drama with City. They are like we used to be…going about our business nice and quiet.

Bad for the league as i dont see anyone stopping them.

Right, time for brekkie then the pool…

And there we go. Klopp with the “im happy with what we’ve got” line whilst also telling us Konate has a muscle injury :man_facepalming:

Actually 37. I know he is in great shape for his age but he is very much at the upper age for a professional footballer.
