I remember him being a contributor to that title challenge too. I don’t think he was that all bad, especially since we’d been having problems with finding a decent left winger for a while, he just wasn’t magical.
He was also only kicked out because he had an issue with Pacheco if I remember correctly.
Riera was a good footballer, but just didn’t score enough goals. With the way that team was structured, with so many players who offered essentially goal threat, we really needed the guy playing LW to contribute more there. I was hopeful after the 08-09 season he would grow into it a bit more, but instead of kicking on he (allegedly) kicked Pacheco, got dropped for it and then criticized Rafa to the press and so was sold in the winter window for a loss.

This isn’t the first time we have been linked to Schlotterbeck. I’m not a fan of Gyokeres - let Arsenal have him. Kerkez should be one of our main priorities this summer.

I like Schlotterbeck. Wouldn’t necessarily be my choice, but I like it if he’s on our shortlist of options.
Interested to see what kind of defenders we aim for, players who are basically for one position (like Kerkez is a pure LB and Schlotterbeck is a pure CB), or would some of them be more versatile.
Maybe it was more under Klopp that we were looking potentially at players who could cover LCB and LB, under Slot it seems like we’re more linked with proper full backs and centre backs.
Gyokeres has the look and feel of Darwin Mk2 looks good in a shit league. He looked down right soft as shite for Coventry.
FSG will spend but it may not be on players everybody wants. Hence, we will not be satisfied.
