The whole world would be better staying away from social media!
ā¦He wrote, on a social medium.
I like James Pearce and Iām not someone who will give him a load of shit but I thought using his press conference question to ask about the supposed ā¬5m to Benfica if Numez starts again was absolutely pathetic and I expect better of him.
Meh, he has form for this. Didnt he get told off by Jurgen in a press conference before for asking something similarly inane?
Didnāt Jurgen get pissy with him for something heād written only to realize heād confused him for a different writer?
Could be wrong on this and happy to be corrected, but I think the one where Jurgen properly told him off was for an article that had been published in the athletic.
Pearce is a journalist, so even if he is a fan or a connoisseur, itās his job. Didnāt see anything dirty by asking the Nunez question, some clarity over rumours from Portugal. And as for Kloppās incident with him a few years ago, that was weird by Jurgen. Think it was over rumours that he had an affair(?) with Matt McCann? But who knows what really happened.
Its not his job on the eve of a potentially historic day to probe into unsettling rumours on the transfer arrangements of a particular player.
I would say it is, to ask questions regardless of the situation. Heās not there as one of the members of the Anfield Wrap or whatever fan media thing.
If a question like that over a contract clause rumour from Portugal is really unsettling usā¦
Its unsettling the player, as his post on X demonstrates.
Surely theres no need for such ājournalismā prior to a pivotal day in the history of the club?
Edit
It looks like Darwin is already out the door? What possible benefit is there to demean the player any further with following that line of enquiry?
The player also has a brain, doesnāt have to react to everything? Maybe his reaction (and the rumour creator) brought more attention to it than the question?
In the media world, things like that are a topic.
Pearce asked, Slot gave a very good answer in a calm way, we move on. Big deal.
Canāt expect journalists to pour glasses of champagne because we might win the league tomorrow. They have a job to do.
There are much worse stuff than this.
Social media should be something that players hire someone to do. Professional. Boost profile and engagement. Benefit from the upside, but donāt actually get involved personally, due to the obvious downside.
If a player is curious enough, sign up anonymously to view - I donāt know why they would, but they have the right to watch the social media parade go by as much as anyone.
Darwin has slightly let himself down, but I canāt overdo the criticism. Heās a passionate fella and he wants to play, and if his Liverpool career is fizzling out, and if heās not getting on the pitch due to another payment for Benfica (we donāt know that) then I can well understand his frustration.
If and when he goes, as looks likely, he goes with my best wishes. I see a striker with so much potential, but we all know the score, and he hasnāt produced enough in a red shirt.
You can and should expect a bit of respect from journalists. Particularly those w hose livelihood depends on good will from the clubs.
Your last line is puzzling. Of course thereās worse stuff. But we are discussing this issue on a fans forum.
Couldāve sworn we had a social media thread on here somewhere.
Anyone care to point me in the direction of the rumours?
Didnāt find the question disrespectful (sometimes there is a lack of, thatās true, but that comes more from other places). And Pearce is not an LFC employee. Highly doubt this will unsettle anything about tomorrow, the team or the atmosphere.
The reason I donāt like it is two fold:
-
Itās not very important or interesting. If someone asked the manger about every little small, insignificant rumour theyād need a 4 hour press conference. Nunez hasnāt been our starter at 9 so it literally doesnāt matter.
-
You know exactly what the response is gonna be. āDonāt believe what you readā and a denial. There was no way the manager was going to say anything interesting at all.
Either way, it all adds fuel to the RUMOUR that Nunez is unhappy and off on the summer. Should get great money and Iām excited to see whoāll replace him.
Would settle for Jonathon David on a free if we also sign a super versatile attacker.
This little sideshitshow makes me think of @Limiescouseās point about journalism in the US.
At this point, these ājournalistsā are creating the story, and trying to make themselves central to it. Pisses me off.
So, err, any rumours? Unreliable or otherwise, really not picky at this stage.
Is the tweet from Nunez real?
Appears so, after all the support the man has had he goes on posts that, the man is a tool.
