I’m ashamed that we spent 130m on one highly overrated player. To win titles, you’ve got to spend but that amount on a single player was shameful from Hughes and Edwards.
Ok thanks I am normally quite careful with names and their spelling and it is unforgivable since I did German at school and at uni and I visited Germany many times and was fluent in the Language.
Spurs are already briefing that it will take a world record bid for a defender to get Van de Ven. I don’t know about anyone else, but I have absolutely no interest in Liverpool getting involved in a saga to get him in. It’s a World Cup year, we might have a new manager, there is a lot of business to do.
I don’t see us changing Virgil’s side at CB as long as he’s here as a regular starter, we’ll see if the end of that is 2027.
It could happen as an emergency, I think this season was the first time in a cup game when Robbo came off the bench to play LCB and Virgil moved to RCB.
I don’t think it’s impossible for him to play RCB, I just think that’s something that’s well established and we won’t change it.
So that’s why I don’t see us signing a LCB with the view of coming here as starter. And always took these links to Bastoni, Schlotterbeck and whoever else with enough skepticism. They were never serious or reliable enough.
If Schlotterbeck (I like him as a player) or someone else is fine being backup for a short while before eventually replacing Virgil as starter, then maybe we’d do it.
There is also a possibility in the remaining of Virgil’s time here that his direct backup is basically the last option in the hierarchy or the most able of right footers to do a job at LCB (always found it funny how Matip absolutely never played LCB for us, not even in a friendly, not a single minute) or we sign a hybrid left sided defender, who would be both Virgil’s backup and provide competition for Kerkez.
