The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

And Konate. Seems to be dragging out a contract to see who else comes in. Real Madrid obviously haven’t.

If you are not committed. Go.

He can’t go yet if he’s going, the season is still on and things are unresolved.

A bit of patience.

I did not mean now! End of season. Maybe he is waiting for the management decision I guess.

No
You didn’t.
Some people just don’t get us!

This summer’s going to be a shitshow isn’t it?

At this point Alisson is a question mark. As in is he going to pull his hamstrings doing this routine clearance.

He has been the best goalkeeper I’ve ever seen at Liverpool, and I think he was the best in the world in Klopp’s heyday. But he is just too fragile now to trust as number 1. You need a goalkeeper to be fit for every game, and him constantly pulling up is a huge problem for us.

Doesn’t retaining a goalie who is on track to miss 20 games through injury for the second successive season leave us with pretty significant question marks?

As I said initially, he has been wonderful for us. At his best he was the best in the world and was that guy for years, but a goalie who is unavailable to the degree that Ali now is provides no stability. I get there are questions from fans about Mama, but we bought him to be the guy. IMO he is far more likely to become that guy if we allow Alison to move and so its time to back our decision

How is Ali moving on going to magically improve Mama’s footwork, distribution, ball possession, and passing skills?

We knew from day one that Ali was THE guy, it was obvious to everyone.

It’s far from obvious with Mama.

It doesnt. If you dont think he is good enough then this is obviously not going to be a path you personally are on board with. But 1) I think a lot of the criticism of him has been way off base and 2) I am basing this on the club identifying him as the guy to replace to Ali and not a back up replacement for Kelleher. Assuming 2 is true then to me it makes sense to back that decision after yet another injury disrupted season for Ali and there seemingly being interest in him.

I don’t see how it does. If Alisson is fit, he starts, when he isn’t, his backup plays. How is that any different to what has been happening throughout his time at Liverpool?

If Mamardashvili had shown that he could challenge Alisson as first option, it would be a different conversation, but he hasn’t. Selling Alisson in the hope that Mamardashvili may or may not become a worthy successor seems an unnecessary risk, especially when there’s going to be another summer of upheaval.

Maybe it’s Alisson who is interested in moving on. He’s been here 8 years, is 34 at the start of next season and cycle for that squad he was a central part of is coming to its natural end.

If there’s a time for him to move on, experience somewhere new and still be towards the top of his game, now is about the right point in his career.

You don’t spend £25m on a new keeper without some sense the current number one is on his way out soon. Unless you’re Man City.

You dont make a move like this on “hope”.

Neither was Keita. But sometimes things don’t pan out how you expected them to be.

“No we can’t let Ali leave this summer, we’re not ready for that and he’s not a valuable enough asset on the market”

Also “No we can’t let leave Ali leave on a free next season, we need to bring money in for our players”

I love Ali to bits but I’d be ok with either happening, sometimes it’s better to move on before the real decline sinks in. It happened with Pepe, don’t want it happening with Ali.

A comedy alliance between Quickie and Leggy would be a threat to civilisation as we know it.

Bring it on!

Yes sometimes moves dont work out as you expected. What is the implication of that though? How can that possibly have any impact on what we do with Ali’s planned replacement?

I’m just saying that I’m not convinced by Mamarashvili being Ali’s rightful replacement based on what I’ve seen so far. I felt more comfortable with Caoimhe betweek the sticks.

Anyway, Kelleher isn’t here any more and Mama is. Hopefully with a more settled defensive unit he starts looking better.

We don’t even have the setup to start rapid attacks from big throws from the back like prime Ali used to.

The club may have a different view of the situation from the time when we bought Mamardashvili to when Alisson’s replacement might be needed. We’re talking about a span of 2 to 3 years. And more importantly, what they found out in the mean time. And there could be different people in some roles…

I do think Mamardashvili will get a proper chance here, but we’ll see how it all pans out.
