Right back. Right back. Back up right back/centre back. Versatile midfielder, athletic, has done a decent job at right back in a pinch. Same again Szobo. And now finally as the sixth choice, Endo, a break glass sort of option, but nevertheless an option for right back. Gets stuck in, likes a tackle, experienced.
This is plenty of depth at right back!
We need another forward and another central defender and we should be good to go this season. Letās see what irons Hughes might have in the fire.
Normally when you strength the first 11 the players replaced become your back ups. But we have moved on lasts starters and kept the same back ups which is a weird logic.
I think that happens far less often than fans believe. Displaced starters often want to leave - or the incoming players come in to replace someone already leaving. There is also the financial impact on the club from carrying the salaries.
Quansah was back up, Nunez was back up (well he was a starter at some point but had even become back up under Klopp). Trent left so not sure we could do much about that. Kelleher was back up.
Endo was woeful at right back he got skinned a few times. Szoboszlai is wasted and think back to Milner not being too happy playing that role. And I wasnāt saying buy a 4th rightback so stop putting words in my mouth (Mascot). I was saying weāre already suffering injuries in a team with less than a full complement and having to think creatively where we can play players who are less than optimal in those positions.
We have two injuries and one player who has just returned from injury but not yet really fit to play - all in the same position. Thatās why weāre having to consider playing someone else there. Having more players is unlikely to change that because weāre unlikely to be buying more right backs. And playing Szob there for example will not leave us short in other parts of the field (although Iām sure @zoran will be along to mention his pressing lead .)
Itās not how many minutes but what contribution you have to replace thatās 5 goals and 3 assists and Chiesa already has one goal.
Jota was 6 and 4, I loved him but nethier player had a great season and you would expect someone like Isak to contribute that himself. As I said I think we were already overloaded on forwards.
Get someone like Isak in and I would say itās fine.
Also Iām going bang on about Wirtz here who will add a completely different dimension who will contribute goals and assists, heās not effectively replacing anyone bar Elliott.
You have lost with Diaz on top 26 league goals and replaced it with a 22 year old in his first season in England. I know he has started well but Dom did too but dramatically tailed off in his first season.
In June all the talk was about building a destiny now we are in a vulnerable position of our own making.
Sorry Jack, you are negative. If you are not on a wind up, and you are posting in good faith, then you are being negative and unduly worrisome.
We are the champions. We have made some brilliant signings. Let them bed in and see what they do. Loads of talent. The age has come down. There is so much to like.
Yes, we need another defender and yes, we need another striker. Letās see what happens!
Add up the goals and assists of Nunez, Jota and Diaz. I fully expect their haul to be bettered by Ekitike and Wirtz.
And then letās see who else we sign. It is very likely we are not finished in the market yet.
