He looks good! :+1:

The passing range is very Virg, isn’t it. Defender who can bring the ball out from the back. Looks good.

Miguel Delaney is pretty reliable is he not?

Complete fuck up if we allow this to happen

Yep, and now picked up by SSN also.

I am still hopeful we are in discussions with Palace also and we can get him.

Speaking of which, Anfield Watch should also be part of the banned list.

I would be very surprised if we’re still in. There hasnt been any genuine links since the summer has there?

I don’t really care as long as we have someone else lined up. Signing nobody would be a fuck up.

Our position on him has been odd since the summer. We felt we didn’t need him but would pursue him as a good opportunity if Palace were willing to make a deal. That suggests we had higher rated targets we’d turn to down the line, but he was viewed as an incremental improvement, and it makes me nervous that this is a sort of strategy that comes across as being too clever by half.

That was my thought too.

The club has prided itself, in recent years, on identifying a target and being prepared to wait. At times that’s left us short. Guehi was clearly our main target and wanted to join. Would be a fuck up if they faffed around until last few days of summer window, then lost out to city in January window. I also think he improves City for a number of years which is another downside

I think what went down over the summer was essentially Palace going back on what had been agreed and approved a fair bit prior to the last day. If they are selling this window we should be given the opportunity to buy (assuming Guehi still wants to come - which I think he does).

If he comes here, great.

If goes to City he’s too short and crap at headers.

Let’s hope Palace mess them around as much as us. Personally can’t see why he’d move now when he could take his pick in the summer and no doubt get a chunk more cash for himself in the process.

But hey, if that’s what he wants and City are willing to pay what we were in the summer and a signing on fee then so be it.

I don’t know if this is strictly the case. It’s true he was the one we obviously bid for but we were reluctant to raise our offer. Had we done so earlier in the window by a relatively small amount the deal would have got done. That’s why i think @Limiescouse is right. If he had been top of our wanted list a higher bid would have surely been made?

And then having come so close to signing him but not to make a deal for January?

Was the price the issue? We had a deal agreed with Palace did we not? Issue was them not getting their business done and their manager chucking his toys.

I think the reason you don’t immediately make a deal for January is they’re reportedly after a similar fee to what we agreed in the summer. That was a handsome fee for someone with a year left but at least you had him for the season. Now you’re expected to pay the same, get him for less of this season and you probably have to pay him like he’s a free-agent too.

That’s probably quite unpalatable for us but perhaps less so for City. Then of course there’s the issue of whether they once again need to find a replacement first and how long you’re willing to wait for them to do so. Can’t see Liverpool keen to get drawn into that again.

All those Liverpool fan sites are really shit.

I think we had the fee and basis of the agreement made much earlier in the window and were giving Palace time to find a suitable replacement without sellers knowing he had already gone and they had the money to spend. The fee wasn’t the problem, Glasner was.

It helped it drag onto the final day of the window so yes, although not the biggest factor, it was still a factor. It would have much easier for them to be persuaded to let him go with time in the window to chase their own targets if we had ā€˜given in’ to their ask. I mean Ā£40m for an England regular isnt a bad fee to pay for a player that a year before was being priced in the Ā£60m bracket.
