The Unreliable Transfer Rumours Discussion Thread (Part 4)

Not a bad list of players but I think this shows the landscape. All would cost a fortune and they are quite young with not many games to back up their price tags. The days of getting a Mane or a Salah are long gone.

Van de Ven is so injury prone that the link makes no sense to me. Any players we get in future need a clean fitness record.

Liverpool have used injury prone players before. For example Joe Gomez.

I feel the real sticking point is the rumored demand of 100 million pounds fee for Van De Ven. If the asking price was 40-50m then doing business might be realistic.

However at 100m would be a higher price than we paid for Virgil Van Dijk and VVD was a much surer thing when we bought him.

I seriously doubt Liverpool does any business in January even though the needs on defence are quite apparent.

The ownership sees one good performance in the CL and they will say see we don’t need any more help. We’ll spend next summer!

I actually think that vdVen and “a new LB” could be actually connected, IF we do want Micky and Robbo is on his way out. Price could be an issue, but then Spurs are also bananas…

I could see vdVen spending a season being both Virgil’s backup at LCB and also provide competition to Kerkez as the more defensive minded full back.

And then maybe become Virgil’s replacement in 2027 if that’s what will be needed.

But we’ll see what happens, who’s our coach next season, what are our other moves, etc.

I could see us signing a CB who is only a CB and another one who can cover at full back.

Because our versatility in defence isn’t good enough, with Gomez being the only one of our 8 senior defenders who can play more than 1 position.

Prices increased rapidly during their time with us, but the fees we paid for both of them were really quite substantial for the time. Enough so that a fair amount of the concern raised by fans was not about pursuing them as players per se, but “if we’re going to spend that much money on someone, then it should be on a top player not a squad player “

…we all dream of a team of jeremies…

Guardian punting transfer of Robbo to Spurs. Doubt it but he would be exactly what they need for that dressing room!

If it’s true, I hate seeing Robbo go, his attitude has always been top class.

NO NO NO…it is a complete sentence.

Exactly my sentiments why would he go there, a loan move to Bournemouth would be much better for him.

Thing is, he’s not getting a new contract and he’s got the WC in six months so needs playing time. Might make sense to him.

Which is fair. Nothing against Robbo if this happens. He has been great for us for so long I’ll always wish him the best. Still I’ll hate seeing him go because of how great he has been for us for so long.

They do make some silly stuff up.

Van de Ven would be a risk for me. He is all about pace but seems to have muscle injuries. Like Owen and Torres one too many injuries and his main weapon is gone.

That’s actually nothing so surprising.

Different big clubs competing for a young player at Leipzig like Diomande (even if I still need to see more of him) is hardly breaking news.

And Gomez almost ended up at Milan last summer, perhaps they would be still interested.

Yeah I think both of those are probably accurate.

Meant more we aren’t going sell Gomez at this point.

We really need a CB

Yeah there is a massive issue here.

There should have been new signings on New Year’s Day.

Acting out of desperation a week before the window closes sounds like a great idea.

If we don’t sign a central defender it really is starting to look like we are writing the season off. We are so short at the back we’ve been screaming for a central defender for ages!

Joe Gomez is a smashing player and we all love him, and even though today’s injury was unlucky and came from a collision, after Virg fluffed his lines, we all saw it coming.
