You expect this sort of things to happen in North Korea, Saudi Arabia…. This is scary.

Yeah, despite the headlines making it seem like some form of justice was done, the charges are being brought for the shots that went into the neighboring unit. So it still validates that the cops can execute a no-knock warrant on the wrong place, kill the people inside and face no consequences…as long as they don’t inconvenience the neighbors.

It’s funny that you say that, because I was talking to my friend the other day (Chelsea fan, a former Republican, and now card-carrying member of the Resistance). When Ferguson retired, he said “there’s 27 years of bad karma coming back at Man Utd”, and based on 2013-present he’s been pretty correct.

This got me thinking. In hindsight, I think Sir Alex was the Mitch McConnell of English football…not just in terms of being a bespectacled, overweight old man, but also in terms of his diabolical demeanor and ability to get his way by any means necessary. For all we despised him, you couldn’t doubt his brilliance. To be clear, I think McConnell is a much worse human being than Ferguson, at least in terms of the scale of collateral damage coming with their desire for power.

All this being said, I am hopeful that the GOP gets some bad karma once McConnell goes, or before. Admittedly, I’m center-left — though I’ve voted for a socially-liberal Republican, the Governor of MA (when I lived there) who also has one of the highest approval ratings of any US Governor — but the GOP’s power-grabbing antics and refusal of any kind of compromise has really pissed me off.

Yep, nailed it. I think the GOP in its current form is dead once they ram through a SCOTUS judge. But that death will only last a cycle or two, then voters will forget how bad they were and vote for them again. Sort of a cycle of horseshit, if you will.

Americans think MAGA hats are in bad taste

“Amazon has faced criticism for selling hats with the slogan ‘Black Lives Don’t Matter’ after a barrister tweeted about the item. The online marketplace has since removed the item which were being sold by a third party and advertised as a ‘nice present’. It comes just over a week after the retailer was slammed for selling T-shirts that read ‘Let’s Make Down Syndrome Extinct’.”

WTF were Amazon doing allowing these?

I really don’t think so. This country has absolutely no political memory at all. It is why the Republicans are still generically viewed as being better stewards of the economy and better on national security despite the absolutely overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

If this does result in a 2020 wipeout, and with the Senate advantage and Trump election fuckwittery that is a big reach, all it will take is 6 months in the minority of them complaining about the debt, socialism, lack of bipartisanship from the elite Dems ruining Washington etc and everyone will lap it up on the way to putting them back into power in 2022.

Maybe. Tell you what - if the GOP loses the Senate majority this year and gains it back in 2022, I owe you a Coke.

Michael Shannon the “Iceman”

That is so good. One of the biggest failings of the last 5 years or so is treating trump like he’s a normal person, when it should be filtered through the prism of a vacuous, soulless imbecile as Shannon has to explain there over and over again.

in an earlier interview shannon said ‘time for the urn’ if your parent supports trump

Think we can all agree that’s a bit extreme, no?

It is sheer madness that a President picks who sits for life on the Supreme Court.

It is sheer madness that they are selected to the Supreme Court on the basis of their political opinion.

Judges should not have political opinions when it comes to decision making. Liberal or conservative, I don’t care, their role is uphold the law and the consititution - not manipulate the rulings to suit their own political ideas.

What an utterly broken system that is.

President picks, senate confirms. I agree with the life part though. Ruth Ginsburg was 87 and had serious health issues, imo not the best choice of age/health to be making judgements. There comes a time when people need to retire.

You got to have some type of Political opinion? When conservatives hold both presidency and Senate, then it tend to be more conservative pick, when Democrats hold both presidency and Senate, then it tend to be more Liberal. When there is difference Party between Senate and president, then the pick needs And tends to be more moderate.

They don’t have political opinions when it comes to decision making. They judge on the letter of the law. They don’t change the law to suit their rulings. The two thoughts are that there are two types of Supreme Court justices, 1 that interprets the constitution through “originalism” or “textualism”, while the other uses “living constitution” interpretation. It still causes interpretations that could be considered conservative/liberal, which makes people think they are making judgements based politically.
