Saying not to fear is part of the right’s playbook, so it is consistent, though obviously massively insensitive.
In right wing religious circles we are seeing a lot of people say stuff like “faith over fear.” I’ve had a few conversations with people of that ilk, and when I ask why they feel the need to carry a gun with them, and what happened to “faith over fear” at that point, they don’t want to know!
Personally I was sorta hoping Trump would get it worse… not die, but be really ill with it, maybe intensive care for a day or two, just to at least give a signal to his base that Covid is a serious thing. But I suppose there’s no help for that lot, so it’s going to boil down to the forthcoming election.

Wouldnt wish death on the man, but I was really hoping it knocked him out for 6 so that maybe his base would at least take this shit seriously and see its no myth.
The speech was cringe worthy, especially the comments about how he knows its dangerous but as a leader had to be in the trenches to serve the American people.
Shame how the same leadership was lacking for the 200k + people who have died due to the incompetence of this Administration. Unfortunately this will galvanise his base and play to the misinformation he has been selling from the beginning.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we see his popularity increase off the back of this, kind of expect it to be honest.
Cornell University posted a study posted recently that indicated that Trump was responsible for the majority of the COVID-19 misinformation. That is honestly astounding and his experience of the disease will sadly only reinforce that view.
I hoped he’d get a dose enough to scare him but given our experience in the UK with Johnson getting it badly but quickly returning to type I don’t think these people really care. They’ll twist it either way.
What a mess we are in. When the world of lies is more attractive than the truth.

It’s a question I’ve asked myself, but I think ultimately you can’t go down that rabbit-hole. Too many people would need to be in on it, and it could sustain.

Seems to me unlikely, and he seems to have damaged himself with independents.
He is also visibly struggling to breathe in that stupid White House stairs clip. Note the abdominal breathing. Maybe he is just horribly out of shape, but I doubt it. My guess is that he is directing his own care, has hit the plateau stage and has no fever, so has demanded that he return to the White House. But the virus is still clearly acting on him, and he is still well within the 7-10 days for serious case progression.

With Trump, it is not just reasonable to question everything, but a requirement. However, as I said the day the news broke, a man running an administration that publicly and privately fluted public health recommendations for months, and quite possibly don’t even understand what those recommendations are, eventually catching it is damn near certainty.
Absolutely everything they have said and done in the past weeks around this situation needs to be questioned, but the fact he actually had it is the overwhelmingly most likely outcome.

Dexamethasone is a beast of a drug that among other things can produces swings of mania during which the patient feels absolutely invincible regardless of their actual clinical situation.

I think what has happened is the oxygen effect has been countered with steroids, the dexamethasone has him peaking and his fever has broken, so in his mind it is done. Stupid twat still thinks this is the flu

Yes, it probably is in a significant part due to the campaign he has run with his almost complete refusal to take Trump’s bait and instead just stay very diligently on message. You are completely unable to differentiate what you want to see from your candidate vs what appears to be a winning message.
