Thiago ALCANTARA: 2020/21

Weirdly this point about him moving the ball too slowly came from Richard Keys, whose an absolute cunt.

Sad both Didi and Barnes have repeated it. Shows a complete lack of any proper game understanding.

Theyā€™d be sing a different tune if the ref had blown for haltime when he was actually supposed to instead of earlier.

Itā€™s not just wrong, itā€™s so wrong it borders on bizarre.

Thiago has been firing ā€˜verticalā€™ passes into players who are dropping between the lines, heā€™s been picking out full back runs and heā€™s been dropping the ball in behind over the top. Almost every opportunity heā€™s created has been wasted by other players, apart from the disallowed goal at Everton.

Weā€™ve been playing slowly recently because half the team is in crap form and the opposition are sitting in against us. If anyone is swallowing the shit about Thiago slowing us down Iā€™d suggest they cast their mind back to Newcastle and Villa and remember how utterly terrible we were in both games before Thiago stepped on to the pitch.

Liverpool I think were always good when they werenā€™t in possession, when they got possession then they played it quickly forward.

Heā€™s not that type of player, so I think itā€™ll be very interesting when he does play more often now, how heā€™s going to change the dynamics of the team.

Okay, so can anyone enlighten me as to how this is anything other than getting the ball to players quickly? Look at the first play heā€™s involved in, beats a man from nowhere and puts Trent in a dangerous position. Second time he just messed up the pass to Salah, but created a dangerous situation. Third time he opens up the space and puts Firmino in in a dangerous position.

The criticism smacks of Didi trying to justify his previous comments on Thiago because they certainly didnā€™t apply on sunday. Itā€™s no surprise though, Didi has been a constant stream of nonsense for years.

Exactly its the complete opposite, he also has some sort of superhuman ability to see and deliver a pass maybe only De Bruyne can execute (in the EPL)ā€¦ Iā€™ve seen several times he goes for a fast fizzing pass to feet straight to a forward rather than the safer option to the fullback or to recycle possession.

Itā€™s refreshing watching him play, the shit he does with a ball with pretty much any part of his body which results in breaking a press is the stuff of fantasy.

In front of them: Luis, flanked by Mo and ManƩ.

Canā€™t see how anyone could watch that Newcastle game and think Thiago was nothing other than asset same goes for the Villa game.

His performances have been fine for me and if he had been on for longer against Newcastle we probably win that one. Before he came on we could have played 360 minutes and not scored.

So they may be legends but to me they are wrong very wrong. And what is the Liverpool way? I thought it was pass and move if anything and he did that and did it far better than anyone else on that pitch.

Club and players need that kind of shit like a hole in the head.

Iā€™d have Torres instead of Mo.

Are we thinking last 15 years then?

1st XI: Alisson, Trent, Hyypia, VvD, Robertson, Gerrard, Thiago, Alonso, Mo, Suarez, Mane, for me

2nd XI: Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Agger, Riise, Henderson, Mascherano, Coutinho, Sturridge, Torres, Sterling

Yes, Thiago in even after only a few games. Heā€™s different gravy.

Whoā€™s the manager? Cos Iā€™m not playing Hyypia with our high line, poor lad.

Like that team would be doing any defending. Heā€™s only in for his goals from corners :joy:

Iā€™ll give you that, for the sheer telepathic understanding between Gerrard and Torres. :+1:t2:

Nothing against Finnan and Riise but I would have Arbeloa, AurƩlio, Wijnaldul (Coutinho) and Kuyt (Sterling).

Ffs he donā€™t have half slow us down. :joy:

When Thiago plays, it is a masterclass in the art of football and true understanding how each pass, each decision can alter its flow.

Those who canā€™t see it are poorer for it.

Never a truer word said Melissa.

Yeah i know. Great playmaker. Great reader of the game. Great technician. World class passer of the ball. Most decorated player we signed in ages.

But what about the defensive side of his game? What about speed? What about physical strength? What about the energy he offers? What about aerial presence? What about winning back the ball? What about tacklings? What about shielding the backline?

I know itā€™s a difficult season. He signed late. No preseason. Got injured.

But if youā€™re 30 and you lack some of the physical attributes in the PL - it might get very difficult to make it.

Thiago as the #6 might work with VvD and the fast Joe Gomez behind him but in combination with Rhys itā€™s suicidal.

I agree that the single pivot might not be the best role for him to start in a new team and in a new league. Iā€™d prefer to see him as the LCM in a 3. I expect him to play there as we get our normal midfield back. But so far Iā€™ve found him quite the opposite - even too aggressive at times. Itā€™s like he wants to prove too much that he can handle the physicality here and had some really aggressive challenges. Iā€™ve no issues with his defensive game. Won all headers when he came in against Newcastle. Klopp praised his speed a few days ago. In terms of winning the ball, itā€™s not only tackling, but intelligence as well. Obviously few players in history are as complete as a Steven Gerrard, but Thiago is certainly not an Ozil or an Isco. Heā€™s just starting in this new team and playing in the deepest role at the moment, he needs to learn to play with us, we need to learn to play with him. So far so good in my book.

Genuine question. What sort of system did he play in Barcelona and Bayern? I think the #6 is misleading, it looks like he is more attack minded.
