Thiago ALCANTARA: 2022/23

Why was he out today ?

Probably another ear infection.

Not sure about that. He needs regular game time to get his sharpness back. Which goes against using him as a back-up type

I would rather have him for one more season, although something could happen. If thereā€™s another top, CL club coming in for him and both parties agree that we can move on.

Still unclear how much weā€™ll use this current structure, because thereā€™s an important difference to how City do it.

They get their width on the left side from their left attacker, Grealish these days. We play more inside with our left attacker and Jones, when weā€™re in possession building through the lines, goes pretty wide left. When Trent tucks in. That is something that Jones is more able to do than Thiago of course.

That + Jonesā€™ decent performances are probably the reasons why Thiagoā€™s remained on the bench for a few games. Weā€™ll see if something more happens this summer and in general, how that structure evolves and how much do we even use it next season.

For me he fits in the category of ā€˜if we get a decent bidā€¦ā€™

His contract ends next season. We will not get even a decent fee if we sell him this summer. If he can contribute even 1500 mins next season, I think that will be far more profitable than what we might gain financially from a sale.

I feel like Iā€™m also arguing with myself here because I simply love his character and his otherworldly ability to play football but Iā€™ve come to the point where I donā€™t think keeping him has much sense because his fitness record is just unreliable (and I think heā€™s on 200K per week, so the money men might take that into account as well).

Iā€™m also not sure where he fits into this new system/formation, that might bring his Liverpool career to a close quicker than his injury record.

You have a point there though. Even if we sell him for peanuts, 5 mil, that along with the wages saved makes very tidy, 15 mil, sum.

It depends what we bring in.

Would be very sad to see him go. Love watching him play.
His last couple of appearances have been extremely poor.

Perhaps unfair but I feel he checked out some time ago. Heā€™s a smart footballer but his social posting, while on point at one level, jars a bit as I feel he should be staying quiet while injured/not playing and keeping his focus on performing on the pitch. .

I would be disappointed if we couldnā€™t get a little cash for him to aid out retooling but wouldnā€™t be sad. TBH, wouldnā€™t be ā€˜very sadā€™ to see any of the team go - if the circumstances are amenable for the club - as I think we have finally reached the point (a year late) where we recognise we have to build a new side if we want to win the big prizes again.

Itā€™s possible to recognise that while, at the same time, feeling a sadness at the loss of a player.

Too expensive to replace and Iā€™m sure the player is looking to run down his contract.

Thiago requires operation and will be out for a considerable period of time.
If Barcelona interest is genuine let him go.

Un fucking believable :disappointed:

Not another ear operation is it? Not started a game for 3 months.

Pass on the translation responsabilities to Diogo and get him gone.

Surely heā€™s played his last game for us? At this point heā€™s just a passenger.

This really is the last straw. We really should look at moving him on and get someone who can actually stay fit and contribute

I would prefer a Bugatti Veyron in the garage for a ten minute drive than a Vauxhall Viva for a half hour.
