Bar Konate yes. Below average. Tiredness and the events pre game are to blame but I don’t think poor all around is harsh.
Felt his passing wasn’t amazing. He is a victim of his own success like Mo but that’s how it is at the top imo. Like looked leggy as they all were and isn’t his fault obviously but the goal imo was poor and that one event does overshadow a performance unfortunately. Wasn’t great maybe is a better word but a 6/10 is the best I’d give him which Trent I’d say would call a poor game.
The goal is a mishit shot so I don’t think you can blame anyone.
Trent was like most last night, good….but not great. The whole 11 were like that and the subs were poor when they come on.
He was average for me. He’s a world class player so personally I expected more, as I did from most of the team. Did feel he ended up letting them get under his skin and then his game went off the boil even more.
He would do with some proper competition at right back.
He’s the world’s best right back for me, no matter what people say about his defending (and he probably did prevent two extremely good scoring chances last night). He’s a 23-year old who’s thankfully won every trophy available to him but he’s also been overplayed as a result of his quality. It’s the story with a lot of these players and it’s the reason why I’m fearful that Alcantara has been called up for Spanish national team, for example. Get him some reasonable competition, rest him whenever possible, work a bit on covering his high positioning (which Konate specifically did extremely well last night) and we’ll see him get even better, hopefully.
It’s one biscuit ffs.
That is a defensive performances that SHOULD have the pundits writing about how he put questions about his defending to bed. Their biggest danger was Vinicius and they looked to release him at every opportunity and Trent dealt with it brilliantly…one on one, coordinating with Konate, reading the passes and cutting them out before they reached their target. The fact their goal came from his side, during a phase when our entire defense was shifted over one man will (and has) made people point fingers at him and instead say the pre-game narrative about his defensive weakness (that itself is based on only narrative not performances) was proven right. It’s infuriating and he deserves better. From the national media, and even more from his own fucking fans.
100%. Thought Trent defended very well; ironically it was his attacking threat that was ‘weakest’. It’s totally unfair though to criticise him for not doing both brilliantly simultaneously when he’s playing at RB. For me I think the problem he faces is that he is so good that we’ve become too reliant on him for goalscoring. We need much more from our midfield so when TAA has the odd lessor game (as per all footballers), or when an opposition focus their game plan on stifling him, that others step up. Our defence is currently the strongest thing about our squad - together but also each individual player is outstanding - while our midfields success depends upon the sum of its parts very much exceeding the individuals. We need to work toward changing that by bringing in beast midfielders to match the individual quality of our defenders rather than thinking TAA needs to up his game.
If TAA needs to improve anything, it’s his shooting - he simply doesn’t hit the target enough and with his technique he could be Gerrardesque from 30-40 yards if he could sort this out.
This. He doesn’t even get it on target these days but the more I see some of the decisions our lads made lately during games, the more I think that fatigue really got to them.
Passing was really off. Lost too many balls down that right side in the first half and our crosses weren’t good, either. It also seemed to me like he played even more inside. Maybe for protection against Vinicius.
If I’m honest I do wonder if 63 games finally caught up on so many players, those games from the cup final onwards all looked very running on fumes, Robertson yesterday was so off in the second half.
I don’t think some of them had anything more left.
Madrid were effectively playing rotation and reserves since the Man City semi final.
I would be really surprised if they did not send Robertson on vacation, but then again, national team managers are only interested in their jobs.
Or does he not like singing…
Or, he doesn’t know the words.
Has anyone found a take yet that makes it Trent’s fault that he went off and his replacement immediately gave away a penalty. Im sure there has to one out there.
Trent’s so bad at defending that it even affects his teammates and makes them crap too.
Half the team didn’t used to sing it until Roy Hodgson became the manager.
TAA doesnt have the stamina to play a full match and that is so important, John, when it comes to defenders. Its one thing playing for Liverpool where you’ve got VVD, Mo Salah and Thiago Alcantara doing everything for you but at this level John you’ve got to be able to up your game when your playing against international players like wot Hungary got. He’s made things hard there for everyone around him and England can’t afford luxury defenders who can only last 60 minutes and don’t even get their shorts dirty. The other thing about Alexander Arnold, John, is that he doesn’t score enough goals for someone playing right back and he also just doesn’t win enough penalties. Simple as that John. He makes the side look very unbalanced and his positioning means he just doesn’t make enough last ditch tackles or body blocks. He’s not Wan Bissaka John and he just don’t look right next to Harry McGuire.
Yup I remember when you had the whole team staying silent or mumbling something that evidently wasn’t it.
Even the tenor bloke they had at the cricket couldn’t improve it, it really is a dirge.
