Trent before Trent. :joy:

On his way of comfortably beating his record of most assists in a full season (16). Currently on 13.

Yeah, but I think he has been stale lately. Also, don’t get why he moves in the middle while Henderson stays wide.

For me that’s the problem.

Because he causes serious damage from that zone (probably de Bruyne and him are the two stand outs in the league). Trent is arguably better tucked inside/underlapping than going on some mazy runs. Sure, he can play out wide and be dangerous from those areas because his passing is incredible, but he’s not someone to beat players. Robbo is the only who is much less talented and more limited technically, he’s the one who needs to go up and down more. It’s a game of movement and a package of small actions. That right side balance this season has been quality in my opinion (also why I criticized Klopp for playing Thiago as a RCM).

I don’t think Mike Dean gets enough credit here. Absolutely sensational decoy run.

Lucas would have been proud.

It’s very much a game of response and adapting to that response.

Most sides have responded to Trent and Robbo’s ability from wide positions by ignoring pressuring the ball and instead dropping in and trying to kill the space they’re trying to put the ball into. That means our FBs can either maintain their positions and pump balls into a packed box trying to thread the ball through an eye of a needle or find a way to take the space they’ve been given. With Trent we’re trying to work ways to allow him to take that space and get closer to goal, and if the defense then finally decide to get out and put pressure on him, he can simply drop the ball to Hendo outside him, who also has excellent delivery from those areas, to put the ball into the space that Trent’s movements have now created in the box.

Here we go on 15 right now.

This guy is a joke.

7 assists against Arsenal so far in his career, the most out of all clubs.

Incredible player. Really off the charts, isn’t it… And to think that he’s still a young one with a lot of time on his side to fulfil his potential… you just wonder where he’ll stop.

Easy. On about number 25 and number 10 in the CL.

True although he can drive me crazy in matches such as CP where he showed his nonchalance and lack of commitment when it comes to defending. It often looks like he can’t be bothered.

When I watch him, it’s always Maldini who comes to my mind. Same arrogance on the ball, same natural talent, same elegance. And the same somewhat laid-back attitude and confidence that his talent will always help him to clear a defensive situation, which is not always the case. That’s where he’s still a bit immature and can get better in terms of consistency when chasing the ball.

Maldini went from being a totally outstanding talent to becoming a genuine world-class player over time, hopefully Trent will go the same way!

Trent’s already world class, he’s one of the best chance creators in the game.

It’s just not possible for him to be as good a defender as Maldini and still do his playmaking role. It’s far too much to think about, far too much effort to get up and down all game twice a week.

We’ll either have to accept he’ll always leave space behind him or neuter his attacking prowess somewhat. Failing that, he could move into that right sided 8 position at some point in the future.
