Pogba was a fantastic player when he turned it on.
Trouble is that he couldnāt be bothered 99% of the time.
Totally agree.
Usually when only in a French kit.
He was good during his first spell with Juventus.
Just give him the ball and let him do what he wants.
Not even an exaggeration to say heās been the best player on the pitch ever since the Arsenal game, at this point I donāt think itās even crazy to suggest heās up there with Stevie ability wise on the ball.
Whatās impressed me most has been his commitment to rush back and fulfilling his defensive duties, seeing a lot more urge in him in the new role than we were seeing earlier in the season. Who knows how/if this will change next season, I think he has to transform fully as that RCMā¦he can occupy a wider RCM position or more narrow, he has the ability either way to create.
Already down as a great but I wonder where on the list he would be ranked.
His ability on the ball far surpasses Gerrard. His passing range is better than anything I have ever seen in a Liverpool Shirt. He is unreal.
What Gerrard had more than any other player Iāve seen was his ability to impose himself on a game through sheer force of will. When he was on his game it was incredible. And I still think Gerrard at his best was more forward than midfielder. That season playing off Torres, with Alonso and Masch behind was Gerrard at his best.
āFar surpassesā is an exaggeration. Somehow Gerrard, one of the most lauded players of his generation, is still underrated.
Possibly. Iāll say surpasses and leave it there.
Iām not saying Trent is better than Gerrard, by the way. Iām saying he is a better passer. Gerrard had a lot more in his locker than passing balls about.
I think Trent might be a better passer than Alonso, you know. His ability with the ball at his feet is simply unreal.
Trent has joined Xabi and Jan Molby in the top three passers Iāve seen in red.
One thing that Trent offers is that he actually has a good left foot as well
Just loving this!
A shite season, by our own high standards, but we are discovering some important things that will serve the next great Liverpool side very well.
At the top of that list is working out a way to unleash Trentās playmaking abilities.
This lad is reinventing the position.
Inverted fullback, and next season, with midfield reinforcements on board, the Premier league is going to see. He will be a playmaker par excellence.
So much quality on the ball.
I canāt wait to see where this next evolution of the side will take us.
Gerrard was a better passer of the ball than Alonso and certainly comparable to Trent.
Overheard the post game on USA (?) and Stephen Warnock said Klopp is āripping offā Guardiola by playing Trent in this āhybrid roleā.
Pep is the Malcolm McLaren of football.
We still need to be aware that teams will do everything they can to exploit that space between Konate and the wing. Leicester did that a number of times during the match and it will be commonplace next season. Against teams like City, that scares me.
While Iām not a fan of Liverpool fans not thinking that Stevie was the best at literally everything in football, Iām certainly happy that Trent can visit this thread and leave it with a sly smile on his face thinking āyeah, theyāve really started comparing me to Stevieā.
Iād really, really like to know what Kloppās long term plans for his role are. Everyoneās experimenting with fullback/midfielder hybrid these days but it makes us look disbalanced and chaotic in defence at times, so maybe it would be better to get another right back and let Trent be at CM, at least in the big matches.
It reminds me something from my Marketing text book. When a good product has reached it maturity stage and starts to plateau, you reinvent it without fundamentally changing it for another growth spur. I remember we extended Stevieās longevity too by dropping him at the base of midfield.
With new midfielders and possibly with someone able to cover more grounds quicker, we will have less of the problem of gaps/spaces between him and Konate (RCB).
Storm is brewing
