UEFA Champions League (Part 1)

Hmm

It seems the cokeheads are suffering from severe memory loss as they have fogotten how many times Pep has choked in a semi

It couldnt have been better had I been allowed to make the draw myself. Not just what is on our half, but who city got, with the tie happening either side of our game against them.

This Atletico side is not what they have been, but when needed they are still comfortable sitting back, giving the other team most of the ball and making the game hell. Not what a (possibly) fraying city need to come up against. Pep and Simeone dont have much head to head history as Pep left Barca shortly after Cholo took over at Atletico, but the one time they faced each other in the CL he knocked out Pep’s Bayern in the semis in 15-16

Even the fact that the second leg is at home. It could not have been a better draw.

City will probably score 3 goals in the first 10 minutes against Atletico  :see_no_evil:

Being picky here but the only useful change would be if City were playing the first leg away at the WM, as there is a much greater likelihood that AM will be able to keep it tight at home and City would probably play more conservative there as well. That would mean they would need to be more careful in which players they play and for how long against us in the league given they would play another difficult AM game again 3 days after our PL clash with a slim lead or maybe no lead.

I’m sick of seeing city with a 6-0 lead after the first leg and therefore almost having a free second leg. For the sake of our PL game, I hope it’s not the case again next month.

Yep.

Unfortunately that’s not the case for a possible semi final. But I guess we can not have everything.

I just realised that every red Manc will be forced to cheer for the team that just knocked them out.

Seriously…the second half of this season has been like a two-month Christmas piss up.

Funny enough looking at blue moon they are overwhelming happy with the draw. They are glad to have avoided us and Bayern.

They seem to vastly underestimate their opponents.

Don’t think City fans have any idea about European clubs beyond some household names.

All 3 of them?

I forget who said it. Probably someone unexpected like Ronnie Moran, but I read once something about how their perspective was that they were happy to still have a tough tie in the balance going into the second leg at this stage of the season. They felt this late in the season you don’t have the time to make up for not switching back on quickly enough so they preferred not having any “easy” games that gave the lads the excuse to turn off in the first place.

It probably doesn’t align with evidence of how our seasons played out, but I can understand the mindset of a team used to winning being more comfortable with a constant run of “finals” through the spring than picking and choosing when you decide to get yourself up for a game.

You mean them sleep walking through the second leg of a tie they had already won and then fucking up in subsequent games after?
