UEFA Champions League (Part 1)

And Barca.

And I am fairly certain Madrid will have done it at some point as well.

And they’ve needed an excuse for this because?

City won’t need to fudge books , fake sponsorships after some more success/time when 2 out of 5 new premier league fans will be city fans.

Time that PL grows a pair and nips this now.

Madrid haven’t won it, the pricks.

Celtic (quadruple), Ajax, PSV, Munich (twice), Barcelona (twice), Inter, United and City.

Interesting, no South American club has ever won the treble, at least not under the modern format. It’s happened in every other continent.

Barelona had a cracking side!

He literally hid directly behind Calhanoglu. Made it easy for Rodri to bend it around them. One of them should have been actively closing down the shot.

I can barcely believe it to be honest.

Champions League starts tonight.

Andorran champions Atletic Escaldes are at home to Montenegran league winners Buducnost.

Meanwhile San Marino champions Tre Penne are at home to Icelandic side Breidablik who finished 3rd in their league.

The winners of each tie play each other for the rught to enter the 1st Qualifying Round, where I believe they will play Shamrock Rovers.

Former Liverpool U23 defender Daniel Cleary is in that Shamrock Rovers team.

This is the best part of the CL. It’s downhill from here. All the romance is in these rounds. Lots of great teams to follow there, Tre Penne means three penne (rigate?) or is it Tre Penne Opera? How Atletic Escaldes find a place flat enough for a football pitch in Andorra is a mystery, and Shamrock Rovers are always a favourite.
I’m going for Budućnost though, having just returned from Montenegro.
They seem to have a proud history:

“At the beginning of 1937, as a team which supported workers’ ideas, together with FK Lovćen, FK Budućnost was abandoned by the regime of that time. During the next years, the club, under the temporary name RSK Crna Gora, only played a few friendly, illegal games, against Lovćen and FK Velež from Mostar.
With the beginning of World War II, all sports’ activities of the club were suspended. All the players joined the Partisan movement and 19 died during the battles. Outside of Podgorica City Stadium (Western stand), there is a memorial tablet commemorating all FK Budućnost players who died or participated in the war.”

What do you think @Iftikhar ?

Really surprised that Red Star qualified directly into the group stage.

Buducnost beat Atletic Escaldes 3:0 while Breidablik twatted Tre Penne 7:1.

Then just to highlight the gulf in class - Breidablik beat Buducnost 5:0 meaning the only team who were not a league champion are through easily.

Very sorry about Buducnost, a people’s club with a proud history.
Let’s see how the Icelanders do in the next round. They certainly seem to be free scoring.

Some good news to not being in champions league for us/klopp…apparently ancelotti is going to be Brazil’s new manager from June 2024😂

The name Breiðablik comes from norse mythology, where it was the home of Baldur. The nickname Blikar is formed from the second part of that name, meaning splendours or twinkles (like a star). The singular form Bliki is also a name for male ducks.

I hope that’s cleared up any questions.

Shamrock Rovers host Breiðablik tomorrow night. I have a feeling there may be a surprise in store for the Irish.
