I normally really dislike the Ref analyst the US coverage brings in because she speaks without saying anything. You don’t explain to non refs why something is a foul by citing the wording of the rule, you do it by reconciling what the image shows with how refs are directed to interpret a rule. But last night she had Cara and Richards on toast.
- Intent has no basis in the decision
- You may not like it, and even as a ref I may not like it, but this is the rule
- We dont even make the rule. That is determined by IFAB by a committee of coaches, directors and ex players without input from the refs
