UEFA Champions League (Part 1)

More matches as opposed to the previous season. Not a fan of that aspect.

I’m not complaining that the table shows that we are the best side in Europe though.

The only change which needs to be made to make this new system work is more importance of finishing in the top spots. Most other play offs systems reward this.

I think we can face them in the next round, can’t find anything online saying that we can’t

Stats in the Feyenoord Bayern game

Wow looks like they lost after he came on, probably shouldn’t have done that, typical Pep putting too much faith in young players.

There’s nothing to suggest any exclusions in the rules:

Yeah , would require way too much of mathematical gymnastics to ensure that the qualified teams don’t face clubs they’ve faced before or clubs from their country.

well it is impossible to face City now anyway after their loss!

Pep will blame him and we wont see him again till at least 2026.

Might still face City especially if they win their match at home against Brugge.

Real winning against Brest would possibly take them out of the equation of playing against us. Which they should do considering their pedigree and the fact that they seem to have gotten over the slump somewhat.

Stand corrected against the possibility of facing City. We aren’t facing them. They aren’t getting upto 18th position now.

The problem UEFA has when this system was thought up no way did they even comprehend that some of the big boys would struggle so much.

Even if City win, they can’t get to 18th place, so can’t face us

Increasingly unlikely that Bayern will be among our list of four potential opponents too. Despite their loss against Feyenoord, they’ve got an easy home game next.

I’m thinking we face one of PSG , Feyenoord , Brest , Dortmund.

Can you explain this please? I though as 1st/2nd we would play the 15/16th team (aka one of the 2 lowest qualifiers from the 9-24 placed games). If a team in 23 or 24th wins, for example, then they will be in the lowest placed sides in the round of 16 and hence eligible to play 1/2nd. So surely that means that we are at risk of playing the likes of city/another low ranked side that win their playoff round game?

(Assuming there is no same country or played in group round exclusion)

We aren’t in Ipswich any more

I like Brest

The reward is significant. You miss one whole round, you get home field, and you face weaker seeds the higher you finish. The only fly in the ointment is that there are some big names sitting on weak seeding right now.

We won’t be playing the next round, so we won’t face them. There are no protections for association or teams previously faced. The seeding is the seeding.
