In this season’s UCL Q/Finals, two dominant midfield models have emerged IMO.
First the relentless physical-technical combo of Arsenal, Bayern, Inter, Villa and Madrid.
Second the high intensity, relentless technical football of PSG and Barca, best exemplified by the two Portuguese wizards, Joao Neves and Vitinha..
Both able to cover enormous amount of ground, with little loss of intensity the entire game. Able to play all range of passes and/or keep the ball under pressure. And both only really matched in this aspect by Pedri, Olmo and De Jong…
Which leads me to LFC’s MF and the summer ahead. I think that for all his work rate, Szobo in that #10 role is a constraint on the game model developing further than it has this season…
