UEFA Champions League (Part 2)

Took me a second to decipher that!
“This Arsenal side… greatest in history at keeping the ball???”

Sometimes I wonder if Arteta worked under Mourinho instead of Guardiola. How is it possible to set up a talented team so negatively by choice rather than necessity?

He got exactly what he deserved.

I just listened to the Men in Blazers podcast review of the final. A bit surprised by just how fawning and over-the-top the praise for Arsenal was.

Put it this way, at one point Rory Smith said the only thing he can see stopping us having a repeat of PSG-Arsenal final next year is if they get each other on the same side of the draw. They also said they don’t see anyone being able to compete for the PL and are fully expecting them to retain it.

I’m not really sure where that level of praise comes from. I think Arsenal have hit a moment where things just fell for them. They’ve had hardly any injuries, they took advantage of rules that will probably be adjusted in the summer, happened to up against other teams in poor stages of their development and got very lucky with a Champions League draw where they didn’t play an elite team until the final (outside of group stage play). The window for the Premier League is still open as next season is another one of transition and any of 5 teams could likely win it but I don’t see them getting to the final of the CL again, not without major changes.

You don’t win leagues without luck, and a fortunate cup draw helps with that. If they think these were the two best teams, they obviously didn’t see the PSG games against Bayern.

I don’t completely agree with this as I do have mixed feelings about Arne’s sacking (even though it was absolutely necessary) and I don’t derive happiness from the misery of others, but I do understand the sentiment here.

I said “comment ça va Farah?” :joy:
I bought some croissants for breakfast :joy:

She is getting ready to go to Islington. She has relative who is a Gooner from Chingford who is meeting up.

Her public navigation skills are pants, they both are car drivers. Good luck with the tube ladies.
I have told them to get on district line to Victoria and change there.

By the way Holloway station is closed today.

My wife’s heading to the parade (her sisters both live on the parade route). She wanted a red top so I found her one of my old England ones. Respectfully bowed out myself

I can’t understand why anyone would willingly drive around London. I know the Tube can get busy, but it is a remarkably efficient system.

They have haven’t worked in central London for years. My housemate works locally in west London, the other one works from home and goes into the office maybe once a month.

I have always commuted in my working and school life. Tubes and buses are brilliant. Many tube lines are air-conditioned now.

There is another strain of commentary I’ve seen defending Arsenal’s tactics and approach saying “what else where they supposed to do? Go gung ho and lose 4-0?” What a bizarre thing to say about a team you are trying argue deserve their place on this stage. PSG are excellent but they are not intergalactic super team. Are Arsenal deserved finalists or minnows trying to keep the score down? You cannot declare them the former then praise their approach as if they are the latter.

Yeah I was initially angered by just how much praise they gave Arsenal but I have since come to the conclusion that to watch that game and believe Arsenal were really good means your initial expectations must have been in the toilet for them. So in a way the praise is actually a little back-handed.

Doesn’t jive with saying they’ll be back next year or will win the PL again though.
