UEFA Europa League

£££ - they started doing this around the same time as they moved the C/L final from midweek to a Saturday. The Wednesday night is more profitable than the Thursday night, so when that became available to use, the money-grabbing boffins at Uefa jumped on it

If that’s the case doesn’t that mean that many people would be out on the Thursday night and less likely to watch it?

Either way though I don’t expect UEFA to be up to date with such trends.

Beats using Ticketmaster.

I saw a Spurs fan wanting to get in to the whole spirit of the thing and asking for suggestions of traditional Norwegian food to go with his footie. I suggested lapskaus.

Kilo price for dried cod, around 350nok. 350 x 5 = 1750.
1750 nok = 127.64 Sterling on todays rate.

The biggest game ever for Norwegian football tonight. People in Norway debate if Bodø/Glimt’s success has toppled Rosenborg’s accomplishments in the Champions League and due to the outrageously romantic journey of Glimt. They only came back to the Nowegian top tier in 2017, came 11th in its come back season, before ending up on a sensatinal 2nd place in 2019. In 2020, they won the league for the first time ever. Since then, this little team from a medium sized Norwegian town, has won the league every year aprt from in 2022. Their record in Europe on this remarkable football journey has been outrageously shocking; but in a positive way !

Their budget today is not at all as it used to be, 3-4 years ago, but compared to the likes of Lazio and certainly Tottenham, the 9th richest club in the world; is peanuts. Glimt has made their success by selling their best players the last few seasons for increasingly better (but peanuts in English terms) value, helping Norwegian market value a lot. Due to Glimt, Norway has passed several countries and are now ranked 11 on coefficency. Every football interested Norwegian must thank (some don’t, rivalry is rivalry), I as a non-Glimt fan certainly do !

Tonight they are in an outrageous semi final in the second tier European cup, an absolutely beyond amazing achievement that has caused shock waves far outside Norway’s borders. It is THE foobtall story in latter years and I am proud to have visited their small cozy stadium years ago.

Tonight, Tottenham are favorites, but perhaps not so big favorites as many in England think. Glimt at home is very different, but for those who say they only came so far due to their pitch, well they play games away as well and have won several also in Europe, including some in this season (Tottenham’s manager has lost twice to them already in 2021, both home and away when Glimt punished Celtic arrogance).

I dare say this is the most special football game in latter years. Highest quality ? Of course not, but that is NOT what football is about and it is not what football romanticism is about. But I can guarantee you, offensive football.

I think tottenham is likely to go through, but I honestly think, just barely (Unless Spurs manage to score first, at which point it will be too hard) and with slim margins (extra time quite possible here). I think Glimt will win at home, but that a 2 goal cushion is maybe too much (defensively, Glimt is not that good, but they play offensive football at home in Europe that is honestly far more fun to watch than most Premier League games (and of very hig quality). Kjetil Knutsen, certainly one of the better managers in Europe; what he has built is absolutely above and beyond.

So yeah, looking forward to this. I hope some of you will watch it. I think, some of you might be surprised. I know it doesn’t sound that sexy on paper, but if you are a football romantic, it is a crime that ought to be punishable with public flogging to miss this tbh.

And that is all. I am not at all enthusiastic. No, no; not at all!

I’m going to the cinema now, but might catch the second half.

Good luck!

Elderly man interviewed on Norwegian Tv2 right now. “4-3 to Glimt. They will beat them in Extra Time because they are better trained than Tottenham”

cheeky !

Crossing my fingers that we avoid an early Spurs goal. It would be amazing if this game could live to the end.

I’ll be watching the bottlejobs visit to Norway.

Anyone thinking the other games might be better to watch?

I feel I cannot objectively answer, but imo, this is the game for historic reasons, as well as offensive and positive football.

If not, there are excellent stable streams for the better game.
