UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

A pawn. I always considered Boris one to be honest. And the rest of his cabinet are the same.

I’m not convinced he’s right here. I think there’s a few things that simply will never be the same again. if you happen to live / work in those sectors then I doubt you share his views.

It’s a very long way from the instant land of milk and honey these tools were selling us a few years ago.

To be honest, the thing I find most disingenuous about these is the way the EU is being blamed for putting up barriers to trade. Well, yes. There are now barriers to trade that there weren’t before. That’s literally the whole remain argument.

Remain: we shouldn’t leave the EU, because it will create barriers to trade.

Leave: Nah, it’ll be fine.

Remain: It won’t be.

Leave: STOP TALKNG THE COUNTRY DOWN!!!

The UK leaves the EU

Leave: There are barriers to trade!!!

Remain: Bangs head on table

A progressive alliance would appear to make sense, ergo it won’t happen.

It’s interesting that female membership of Labour has dropped from 48% in 2017 to 44%. Many former female members saying that they’ve left because of Labour policies and/or messaging that they view as misogynistic and/or showing contempt for women and children.

Is there a breakdown as to when the declines occurred during that period and on what policies or messaging they were referring to?

All anecdotal at the moment - a guy asked a question on twitter and he had a lot of responses (linked below).

But female membership went from 44% in 2015 to 48% in 2017 to 44% in 2021. It would be interesting to know when this drop occurred as most replies indicating it was in 2019 or so. I remember that there was a lot of debate about safe spaces for women that got many labour members particularly exercised due to the views of prominent Labour MPs.
