This puts matters into a whole new perspective, assuming the amount paid is accurate. You may remember that a different employment claim against Patel was settled for £25,000 (Priti Patel staff member received £25k payout over bullying allegations - BBC News) as reported last year and I explained that this was not particularly significant.
The settlement for Ā£340,000 is significant. It would mean that he has been paid damages in excess of the cap that applies to ānormalā unfair dismissal claims (currently just under Ā£89k plus a basic award which for Rutnam would have put him just over Ā£100,000 in total).
This appears to be a clear acceptance that the claims against the government included strong claims for either discrimination, being dismissed for raising concerns related to health and safety or for whistleblowing.
Doesnāt that simply mean that @redfanman is saying that anyone who does rely on Novara Media isnāt going to be best informed. Since you are saying that you are not relying on Novara Media then quite clearly that observation wouldnāt apply to you.
I donāt see why this should cause any disagreement between the two of you.
Actually loads, just none of them happen to be Conservative MPās at the moment.
The whole lot of them need to be removed. Weāre in for another round of subtle Austerity combined slashing of budgets to yet more key services etc. I bet the debt wont shrink a penny, not even with the the favorable interest rates that we currently have.
I agree. I wouldnāt have had her back in the cabinet after her unauthorised meetings with Israel. But if her position wasnāt already untenable it should be now.
Probably. Donāt forget that those given positions in government are not necessarily the best candidates but those that either have the most support within sectors of the party or are wanted by those running it.
There will be some people who could be good Ministers either kept to junior positions you rarely hear of, or out in the cold altogether.
