UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

No, I didn’t. Firstly, I used the word ā€˜if’. Secondly, the ā€˜you’ was non specific and relating to anyone making the claim discussed above.

Ok, here’s some updated information on this.

This puts matters into a whole new perspective, assuming the amount paid is accurate. You may remember that a different employment claim against Patel was settled for £25,000 (Priti Patel staff member received £25k payout over bullying allegations - BBC News) as reported last year and I explained that this was not particularly significant.

The settlement for Ā£340,000 is significant. It would mean that he has been paid damages in excess of the cap that applies to ā€˜normal’ unfair dismissal claims (currently just under Ā£89k plus a basic award which for Rutnam would have put him just over Ā£100,000 in total).

This appears to be a clear acceptance that the claims against the government included strong claims for either discrimination, being dismissed for raising concerns related to health and safety or for whistleblowing.

Doesn’t that simply mean that @redfanman is saying that anyone who does rely on Novara Media isn’t going to be best informed. Since you are saying that you are not relying on Novara Media then quite clearly that observation wouldn’t apply to you.

I don’t see why this should cause any disagreement between the two of you.

And yet she’s still in her job.

Swear allegiance to Boris and you can go full Trump and still not get sacked. He’d probably applaud you for it.

Is there any better options??? I think her replacement would be only worse, in some way.

Actually loads, just none of them happen to be Conservative MP’s at the moment.

The whole lot of them need to be removed. We’re in for another round of subtle Austerity combined slashing of budgets to yet more key services etc. I bet the debt wont shrink a penny, not even with the the favorable interest rates that we currently have.

Blimey. That’s a lot of money.

What does this woman need to do to get sacked? It’s simply incredible.

I agree. I wouldn’t have had her back in the cabinet after her unauthorised meetings with Israel. But if her position wasn’t already untenable it should be now.

My last post was obviously referring to the original post that started this conversation chain. @kopstar’s interpretation is correct.

one word on Patel. Who foots the bill for Rutman and the governments legal bill?

Probably. Don’t forget that those given positions in government are not necessarily the best candidates but those that either have the most support within sectors of the party or are wanted by those running it.

There will be some people who could be good Ministers either kept to junior positions you rarely hear of, or out in the cold altogether.

You mate. Didn’t you get the memo?

I’ve long rated George Freeman but he’s too much of an independent thinker (for Johnson’s inner cabal).

Boris will message the party now, telling them to circle the wagons round the Pritster. Again.

Yeah, there bound to be some competent persons in that 300+ lot. But Boris has (and will) only picked the loyal ones irrespective of competencies.
