UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

Defence contracts are one of the easiest way to earn hell lot of money. Adding new 4b every year to budget means about 10%-25% commission/bribe. About 400m to 1b to their pockets.

I wonder if I should have explored a career in jewelry design in order to take advantage of these lucrative British procurement opportunities?

Just a quick re-brand of this website from The Anfield Noise to The Anfield Noise Kop Stand and the money will be rolling in for the mods running TANKS.

You’re boasting 100s of contacts with individuals all around the world with dozens of long arduous campaigns under their belt. What the UK government needs is expert reports on the effectiveness of items codenamed the Salah ballistic missile, the Firmino flash grenade, and the Wijnaldum invisibility device.

That kind of Intel must be worth millions.

We could just weaponise Dioufgates.
That has to be worth billions.

The Downing invisibility device will never be matched. Rumored to still be at Anfield, but no one knows for sure.

The announcement yesterday of phasing out of diesel and petrol cars by 2030, making it the second earliest adopter after Norway, and now this. This government only releases good news stories (if defence spending could ever be good news) when they are trying to bury other stories in the news cycle. Its all about keeping the public distracted from the really important stuff going on. They likely have a number of these big spending plans still up their sleeve to use when they need.

This government makes me physically sick.

With Cummings having moved on after making noises of an overhaul of the military, I think this may be just Johnson’s way of rebuilding his support amongst fellow MPs and the military themselves.

Phasing out FF cars by 2030 is something the government should be shouting about from the rooftops. It’s phenomenally good news.

I suppose that they think they have to bury it says everything you need to know about where we are as a species.

That could be it. He’s tried to build relationships with northern MP’s in that badly thought out COVID party last week.

Perhaps he’s on a popularity drive and military funding might be one way of keeping that nationalist side of the electorate sweet.

I guess a few juicy contracts wouldn’t be a bad thing for those Tory Mp’s that weren’t quick enough to set up PPE firms as well

I read GoneKloppo as saying that the phasing out of FF cars by 2030 IS a good news story that the government released as part of a series of ‘positive’ announcements to detract from the covid shitstorm.

I don’t think he was saying the government want to bury it, quite the opposite.

I think the government has to do something to force the pace of change. Part of me thinks it’s too slow but the real elephant in the room for this announcement is the fact that the UK needs a massive infrastructure shift to be able to accommodate the increase in electric vehicles. Forcing car manufacturers down a different route is easy.

Providing an electrical grid that can be used to charge these cars is a different matter. Especially when the Uk wants the private sector to pay for it.

Any ‘Going Green’ story has Boris written all over it and I can’t picture him trying to hide that sort of story. In all honesty I was thinking mostly about the recent Liverpool MP talking about all the dodgy government contracts on the same day the BBC ran a story on it. Although the government doesnt seem to be massively fazed by being connected to these dodgy contract stories, I don’t think they want the story to get enough traction that it becomes news all over the world like Cummings’ scenic drive was. It seems these types of stories are popping up more regularly in the news the last couple of weeks which I imagine would be something they would like to reduce.

I am not even going to mention COVID and Brexit as its pretty clear the direction both of those are heading.

As Kopstar said, I was thinking they were using that story to hide something else. But I agree, I find it shocking that it was announced yesterday and its not even a headline today when it should be still the most important news. Its ambitious but sounds positive. I hope its a genuine plan and not as I say, something just released to distract.

Fair point. What gets cut to allow us to spend more on the military?
