UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

Just a drop in the ocean of water that has flowed under the bridge.

Yep, election as late as possible because itā€™s about Trussā€™s career rather than the needs of the UK. Hence 6months to think about the paper, 18 months before someone thinks of changing it.

How we ended up with Truss is a real worry. Firstly the candidates we had were put forward as the best options with the Tory party, and somehow Tory members thought that Truss was the best option of them all. I donā€™t know what that says about the Tory party and / or its members.

Quite possibly correct with regard to Starmer but with luck some current policies are reviewed. Health, education etc. for starters. A real look at what is happening with Rail and water too. The current trend of throwing everything over the fence to the private sector and not enforcing anything needs to stop.

More like a gallon of sewage discharged into the river because becauseā€¦

Think the bridge will hold - if anything itā€™ll fortify itā€¦

I think this depends on what bounce she gets from her plans to fix energy bills and the NHS, along with tax cuts. It might be just enough to get her to call one sooner rather than later when the financial costs start falling due.

Complete with decorations that will be hanging off it.

Do you think sheā€™s the type to gamble?

Yes, if she thinks she can win, and the circumstances more favourable now than in 2 years time.

She will fuck up the economy for decades to come in the hope of short-term gain, so she can run an election campaign with zero policies but a simple slogan: ā€˜Got cost of living doneā€™. And every billionaire owned paper and the BBC will support her. And she will win.

Here endeth the prophecy.

Truss will do what every Thatcherite neo-con would do in response to economic crisis.

Sheā€™ll cut taxes for the wealthy, and then gawp and bluster as the money resolutely fails to trickle down through the economy.

Isnā€™t one of Trussā€™ strengths meant to be her meticulousness and attention to detail?

She said during yesterdayā€™s speech that her predecessor was ā€œadmired from Kyiv to Carlisle.ā€

She mustā€™ve missed the fact that Carlisle voted in a Labour council in Mayā€™s local elections.

Is it???

Iā€™ve literally never seen it suggested anywhere, if anything, thereā€™s extensive evidence regarding the lack thereof.

She likes maths apparently. So Iā€™d expect she has some complex mathematic model on how piling money into the wealthy will trickle down through the various layers of the population. That model probably requires some clever assumptions that these wealthy people spend all their money on pies in the sky or flying pigs.

Boris leaving his final dog turd in a paper bag on our doorstep. More of the same from him. Iā€™m sure it wonā€™t be the last weā€™ll see of him. Heā€™ll want to go out on his terms.

If Truss formulates an effective fuel price cap freeze immediately, and good luck to her with that, it would mean a nailed-on tory win in the next election Iā€™m thinking. On the fence voters would find it very difficult to support other parties if she pulls that off, as the cost of living crisis has effectively side-lined all other voter concerns - even the threat of a military confrontation with the clearly bonkers Putin is being pushed into the background.

Rees-Mogg to have the climate file in Cabinet? That is practically trolling.
