Also as an aside, guess who was running DEFRA during Cameron’s term, and gleefully agreed to slashing our flood defence budget as Cameron demanded massive austerity savings?
I’ll give you a clue. They went to Beijing to open new pork markets.

Don’t worry I’m sure when labour get in they will do everything they can to screw over a democratic vote that the majority wanted to leave , and have us shackled to the EU yet again .
We’ve got enough problems already, not sure we could handle another unstable country joining the list.
( Relax. I’m half-joking)
They were also responsible for the legislation that is being blamed for its role in the water/ sewage issue earlier this summer…
How can 2 people have so much power? Where are the checks and balances to prevent an economy and public structures imploding based on the whims of a couple of unelected ideologues and their puppeteers?
We preach to other countries about democracy, when our own is FUBAR
100% this…this is why every time they stab their own in the back and have a leadership contest we should have an election…crazy that within her first month the queen died ( 10 days suspension in some ways ) but then within just over a week have completely fucked up and rather than back track are now still pushing shit through.
Honestly the country is fucked simply because of one party, the whole of the house of commons should be made to work together and sort this out rather than the usual hear hear BS we see each week .
I do find that one of the interesting differences in the Canadian and UK interpretations of the Westminster system. Here, the convention really is that a new leader needs a new mandate. They don’t need to call an immediate election, but major changes in policy direction are exactly the sort of thing that creates an expectation of an election. I’d say this rates consideration as a major change in policy direction.
The de facto ability of the 1922 Committee to select a PM seems very odd to me.
There was a lot of talk about this last week, particularly as some of the announcements clash with the actual mandate of the ptevious election. Presumably its an issue because we rely on convention and not legislated process?
Although i wonder if the committee can use this to justify removal of PM (or threat of to get her to change course)?
Kamikwasi.
One of the funnier nicknames doing the rounds this morning.
Fascinating thread.
Unelected? How dare you! A massive 0.17% of the UK electorate voted for Truss.
PM not backing down it seems.
Truss is doubling down on it.
It is awful medicine, as it won’t cure anything, and will make the patient much sicker.
Unfortunately, when she is finished, either internally or in a general election, she will continue to double down on her policies… global instability, Putin, we just needed a bit more time….
Then she will land a City of London job, or a couple of directorships, as reward for enriching those who will employ her in the future.
